Im glad I had the engine compression tested before committing to taking the lump out for a turbo refurb, 1,2 and 3 are fine... 4 and 5 are down 40% 6 is down 45%!!

I cant afford to get my engine rebuilt, so im guessing my only other option is another engine then do the turbo rebuild...

it looks like the engine's gotta come out anyways!

:crying:

Does anyone have an engine for sale?? *sighs*

When you say cylinders 4 5 6 are you counting them left right or all left first and then all down right side? good reason to be sure if all on one side it could be just a cambelt timing issue.

dont know, my mechanic told me the compression was low. he just fitted a new cambelt, the car started misfiring shortly after the turbos gave up :(

Wouldn't be the 1st time a cambelt has been fitted incorrectly, even by just a tooth!

Sure Jeff can say he's had many in like that in the past.

Maybe investigate more before throwing the towel in mate :-)

what does he mean by low.

What is 45% down.... Down from what??

Has you got a full set of correctly numbered compression figures.??

without them its difficult to know what actually is wrong.

in his words..

combustion should be at 100psi, 1,2 and 3 cylinder are at 130, 4 is at 105, 5 is at 95 and 6 is at 93psi

any thoughts?

Those are all way below par. I'd get a second opinion. Was the compression check done before or after your mechanic did the cam belt?

compression was done after, only driven it for about a week and a half before the turbos went. He did the compression test as a 'just in case' before i committed to replacing the turbos.. extra costs etc.

As you're in Bristol Matty, I'd suggest getting your car to Jimmer for a second opinion....

.......I hope it works out good in the end for you mate.

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

If a belt wasn't fitted correctly, then it could throw the compression off. Make doubly sure that the timing marks are correct. A few teeth out and you won't get the best compression. Since they are all down, I'd suggest it 'could' be that.
