Ok guys, this is a problem I've had since I got the car.

The sidelights on the corners in the indicator unit don't come on with the sidelights? They do however come on with the corresponding indicators. Left indicator left sidelight, right indicator, right sidelight? Anyone got any ideas? Is this common to z's or is it just mine?

Cheers

Its either been wired wrong to the indicator feed or you have a short, best to take out the indicator housing and trace the wires.

No lol, its normally a duff earth/ground. Its more than likley the side lights and the indicator housing share the same ground. It can happen if you have water in the housing that rusts the terminals. Take them apart and give them a good clean and get rid of any green crap on the terminals in the plugs/socket

On some series, that's the desired effect. They're like riding lights. Confused the bejasus when it happened on my S3. Didn't happen on the S1. According to Mr F, it's quite common in J land and some US cars - when your normal lights are on, when you indicate, these lights come on to illuminate the inside of the corner so you don't whang your spoiler on the kerb.

Gio is correct

They only come on when the indicator is used AND the normal sidelights are on

True , but he is saying his side lights dont come on at all until the indicators are turned on.

Yeah, when you turn the indicator on the sidelight comes on solid while the indicator flashes. If it's meant to happen with it being a Jap import, then you can put this with the Stupid Jap Ideas section along with the audible reverse tone.

Lol! Still haven't sorted my lights yet, think i'll have to get an auto sparky onto it as its just not something me wanna mess with really....

The lights in the corner of the indicators are intended to light up the side of the road when indicating, they are not sidelights. Its a really neat idea, althought a bit suprising when you first use it. Only avaiable on some later model Jap Z's.

The lights built into the Foglights are the sidelights.

I have a jap import and mine dont do it, but as said some may do. Do you have any side lights that come on when you turn the lights on?

I believe it a 93 onwards option.

erm, he did "The sidelights on the corners in the indicator unit don't come on with the sidelights" so he'd already spotted the real sidelights and also these strange extra ones on the corners.

Anyhow, just part of the fun of owning something out of the ordinary :D I like the way the "you've left your keys in the ignition" ping tone is almost the same as the radar ranger in Discovery's pods. Well, with my avatar, I would, wouldn't I? Let's see if I can find a wav for you...

here you go http://www.palantir.net/2001/tma1/wav/track.wav - well maybe not very close but a bit :)

Why not just have them on all the time to ALWAYS light the sides of the road up. Be much more sensible.
