Slick Pete will be starting on my new car in about two or three weeks. He's going to strip out most of the mechanicals in the slicktop and get the bodywork right up to scratch along with a few other jobs :)

The engine and electronics from the red car will be put into the slicktop by Dan when Pete has done his stuff.

There are going to be a fair few new parts so there will be lots of good stuff up for grabs at very reasonable prices. Pete will be sorting out what's to be had from the slicktop and there will be some stuff from the red one and of course the rolling shell will be looking for a new owner. Not much in the way of details just yet but will be posting a thread in the for sale when we know precisely what's going.

What is certain is that while I won't be stripping the slicktop to the bare bones I won't be keeping aircon and various servos etc to keep the weight right down.

I guess my main performance aim is to exceed 200 mph. I managed 196 mph on my ZX10R after spending a bloody fortune so this is my last chance as getting too bloody old for it lol.

your limited to a theoritical top speed of 196 mph with a 7400rpm limit, but your going to have to aim to hit the target speed at a lower rpm.

The auto and manual use the same diff (ie same final drive ratio). If you want to keep the stock box, then your best bet would probably be a the rear diff from a Infinity (nissan) Q45. Your sacrificing low and mid range acceleration though which would more than likely be an issue with a 1.5 mile aim.

Alternatively I would go with a 6speed Borg warner box, which has a 5th gear with a similar ratio to the 5th gear in a Z box, but then a tall 6th for top speed. That way you retain the cars acceleration and mid range with the added benefit of the increased top speed. May be worth considering the higher NA Diff ratio too, as it will still give you enough range for the top end with the T-56, but you will get there quicker with increased acceleration.

Good project mate, cant see why you couldnt hit 200mph with a longer final drive, my car isnt massivly powerfull and its been upto an indicated 180mph (which am sure somebody on here worked out was a genuine 175.something) so not that far to go really and like already said there are a fair few skylines out there that will do it and they look as aerodynamic as a brick compared to the z32

has there been any successful T-56 manual swaps? with an NA rear end that could be fun and probably still cheaper than getting an OS Giken gear and synchro kit for the stock box.

Hey Nick, yes gonna be quite exciting I think. Might even keep up with your V8 if you ever finish it :devil2: I am taking out the red car for probably the last time this weekend but I've had a lot of fun in it and hoping the slicktop will be even better :)

lol, if I ever finish it at this rate - Pete will be having a word on my behalf with you regarding that shell of yours ;)

He always ends up putting ideas in my head the bugger

Is this from the 350Z? I would definitely be interested in this as it sounds a perfect solution. As long as it's suitable for normal driving too then it could be the best of all worlds :) Have considered using NA diff but have to consider that it's quite a lot of power and with a shorter wheelbase might start to be difficult to handle. Different scenario but I added two gogs to the rear sprocket on my ZX10R and made it difficult to keep stable. Good fun though :)

Sure we can come to a suitable arrangement for you Nick - probably some kind of barter system perhaps :)

No its from Various different cars, here's a wiki link - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Borg-Warner_T-56_transmission

Its one of these engines that very popular choice for power handling capabiities and range of ratio's.

Dont bother with the 350z box, its made of chocolate and the ratios are all wrong.

you said that the heavyer lwb was unstable at 175? wouldnt a lighter swb be more unstable?

I used the term 'hairy' actually but unstable isn't far out lol. It's not really the weight which is the problem rather the set-up to be honest.

ah right so the red one wasnt properly set up. I was going to say. Ive seen 170 and it was very well planted :)

Whats happening with the red one. are you droping a stock engine in it?

Bobs Red shell will be for sale after we have got all off that he wants.

Probably a rolling shell. Maybe the correct wheels to go with it. And some interior. All to be decided soonish.

We already have some interest in this so if you fancy it as a project then get saving a few pennies:cool3:

Without trying to be pedantic you're probably misunderstanding my meaning a little :) I did say 'anything over 175 started to feel pretty hairy'. By that I mean still accelerating with foot down and 'starting' to feel hairy. And I do mean unstable but honestly it takes a lot of setting up to make a car stable under those conditions. Could buy a GTR I suppose and seriously considered it but this seems like a lot more fun :) The red car was absolutely fine but when pushed very hard it's limitations were apparent. Suspension wise around the track was actually bloody good and I was pleasantly surprised but could do better on the open road to which end have sorted some goodies from Z1 motorsports to be fitted. Had oil surge which caused some issues under hard cornering but have now got a baffled sump ready to be fitted along with relocated PVC's and a couple of other minor mods should deal with that problem. Other little niggles many of which will be reduced with the lighter weight of the slicktop.

I will be letting the red one go as a rolling shell as will be taking most of the goodies out into the new one.

Hey Pete got those goodies from Z1. Unbelieveable paid for them Monday and one package arrived yesterday  the other one I missed today so gonna pick it up tomorrow. That's with Fedex I am really impressed with them.

Dropping car off at Dans on the 31st this month to get engine out etc. Will call you over the weekend mate :)

Well Im getting the Slicktop on the Mon 2 aug I think.

So it will be all systems go then!

Well I had a visit from Bob today so I got his car out of storage so he could look it over.

Here are a few pics for those who are interested.

Its a completely stock unmolested 95 Version S NA man slicktop.

IMO it is the perfect base for a high power road and track car.

Its a fresh import and is clean and rustfree everywhere. It came from a Nissan dealer in Japan and not an auction. It appears to have been main dealer serviced there too, judging by the stickers.

Bob has left me a huge pile of new goodies to fit but first I need to remove all the stuff Bob doesnt need.

Watch out for a big "For Sale" List soon.

It is Pearl white and dirty!!. It was a bit dull too so pics dont look to exciting.

Enjoy.....

200mph?

That is a real barrier you're trying to break there.. I remember when I was trying to break 200mph on my push bike.. - it felt fine upto 180ish, but then got very turbulent. I tried wearing lycra to overcome the air resistance and that helped me finally get beyond 200. So, hope that helps!

On a serious note, I would be very surprised if 200 couldn't be cracked. If you could somehow create a perfectly flat floor to the car, that would make a huge difference to slipperyness and stability. It's also probably another first for a Zed, I would have thought. Obviously it creates a few headaches too, like how do you stop the exhausts melting said flat floor, but from what I've read by other 'speed freaks' it makes a massive difference - really can't stress that enough.

Anyway, however you get there, I hope you get there - and back - safely.

Best of luck

Well with Bob safely out of the way down south it was time today to make a start!!

Only had a few hours available so I compression checked the engine before pulling the plug on it.

175 to 185 PSI across all 6 on a cold engine that hasnt been used in weeks was very re assuring. It starts first time with no follower ticking and no smoke. Smooth n quiet.

I have stripped out the rear hatchback area so I can get to the suspension tops!

At the front end i took the bumper off.

everything is rust free and damage free.(apart from the one little split in the front bumper I already knew about.

doesnt matter as Bob is having a new front end fitted.

I will let him tell you what it will be.

Meanwhile I will be getting that engine n box outta there.

We should be able to start a for sale thread soon with all the bits not needed like rad. aircon. Maf. PTU. Engine Box prop BBS wheels exhaust. Stock TT brakes some stock suspension etc etc.

Please just wait till the for sale thread. No requests now and no dibs as this is not the for sale section. Same thing applies to PMs.

More progress this week:thumbup1:

Looks like a mint one. shame he has to put a bumper on it. would be sweet to keep it a sleeper :D

My intention is to put a 99 spec bumper twinz rear bumper and kaminari sides. Will be remaining white but currently haven't decided quite which one. Gonna roll the arches a bit to allow my new wheels to fit and keeping it pretty low.

Drove the red car for the last time on saturday as took it to silverstone to start engine removal etc. That was a great car but am confident that this will surpass it by a long way :)

Well it would look odd without one:hammer:

Well its been a long day and I am beginning to think at 63 that I am getting a bit old for this engine and box removal game.:wheelchair:

However its done! So now I have a rolling shell. an engine sat in front of it and various other bits n bobs lying everywhere.

Everything has gone well and I have not found any hidden nasties.

Nearly all the stuff I have removed needs to be got rid of.

There is a lot of cleaning/detailing to do in the engine bay and also pipes n bits still to remove.

Here are a few pics for those following the project.... Enjoy:cool3:

You have been busy. Good days work i'd say. Looking forward to more updates.
