Thinking of getting my pearlescent white re-sprayed to an ice white.

Any recommendations on the best one out there?

The Audi ice-white looks nice...

Depend on what you want... do you want a solid white or a pearl white?

I have been looking for pearl white for my car, and the Lexus Starfire Pearl (077) is the whitest pearl white I can find.

If you want to go for Icy pearl white, the aurora pearl white (078) may fit you better.

It is very white, with a hint of blue in it... Very Icy looking.

Both are very nice colour.

If you want a solid white that doesn't look like Tipex, the the Ibis White from Audi isn't far wrong for sure.

Definitely nothing pearly, as although it looks great, it's a nightmare to maintain and touch up in the future.

I could be wrong, but I think a solid white is a safer bet.

Are pearls harder to apply or is there no difference as far as the spraying is concerned?

Pearl is a pain in the behind for sure...

As it comes for easy, nothing beat a nice clean solid white.

Ibis White is nice... always like that colour.

I think the Ford White (on the Focus RS) are also quite a nice bright white, but a bit too Tipex for some as it is so white.

Was thinking of doing this myself so the bumpers will finally match.

I like mercedes arktik White. Had my old trans am re painted with that and it looked great.

Peter

ford rs frozen white, new transit white lol

merc artik,sprinter white lol

look great on cars and so bland on vans

have to admit pick one that can be matched if any-thing happens so you dont have to have a respray to get it to match

I've been offered an exterior re-spray (blow-over) for around £600.

The paintshop is one I've used before and the work is pretty good.

Any comments on the cost?

I'd steer clear...for £600? You're likely to get overspray and quick/cheap prep work. You're looking at £250 at least for materials, which leaves £350 labour. It's a day at least to prep for a blow over, if you're going to do a reasonable job, you need to take exterior trim off. A day to paint and a day to finish, then maybe some more time to refit stuff. So that's about £100 a day labour....most good bodyshops charge at least £250 a day labour.

its will have taken me in the region of 200 hours for my respray at least. at even £100 per day thats 2k on labour alone!

I've also seen various peoples' definition of a 'good respray' for not much money and quite often, it's comical.

Si,

Your concerns are certainly very relevant, but I used these guys recently to get my Mercedes E280 sorted, and they did a very good job (photos attached). You're probably aware that the W210 E-class has a severe rust problem, so apart from new panels and body repairs, the following parts of the car were re-sprayed:

- bonnet

- both front wings

- bootlid

- both rear three quarters

- 2 doors

PRETTY MUCH THE WHOLE CAR!

All in all, they probably did charge £100 per day, which covered both sandblasting, body repairs and the respray. Whilst not what I would call showroom perfect, the result is still very good.

On the basis that they know the standard I expect therefore, it sounds like £600 is a good price as they want the car for 5-6 days.

Very correct Si........... happened to my 300 approx 4 yrs ago. Paid Almost 2k for a paint job and finish was terrible, poor quality, total overspray, bad making issues and paint run. I will never send my zed to them again....ever!!! Believe it or not... they are still operating, but under another name, criminal!!!

Al.

£600 is nothing for a paint job, normally 2k for a half decent job, also you cannot see in a pic how good the paint job is mate, a LOT of work goes into the prep of a whole car.
