Hi,

I made this at the weekend, if anyone has any questions, or interested in seeing more - let me know.

It started life like this - just a seed of an idea...

thats awesome.i want one

I know each to their own & all that but why would you want the cam belt & pullies visible & open to the elements?!

one small stone flicking up & its goodbye engine (& yes, I have seen this happen!! )

There is a complete custom under-engine tray Paul - there is no chance of a stone or anything else getting into my engine bay, from the ground anyway. ;-)

Vijay, strated with the 500mm x 30mm ally bar - bent it to shape as per the pictures above...

Used cad to draw out the 3 shaped inserts like this:

Transformed the paper templates to MDF templates then when happy and all measured out and test fitted about 25 times - used double sided tape to stick the MDF to 4mm ally sheet and I cut them out using a router fitted with a copy/template bit like this:

I then jigged everything up and welded it all together.

Finally polished and buffed - bingo job jobbed.

Materials:

1 of 500mm x 30mm x 4mm Ally bar

1 of A3 sized piece of 4mmm all sheet

I intend making a bracket that will mount on the centre section of this cover which will hold the aeromotive fuel pressure regulator centrally. The fuel filter will also be mounted centrally on top of the radiator shroud - should be fun!!

really like that and tbh wouldn't be much more fettling to get some acrylic or polycarbonate to form a complete cover.

would love one of these but alas i cannot afford such luxuries as of yet!

Yeah - TBH while I was making it - I was thinking that it would be very easy to make this out of acrylic - maybe I will give that a go sometime - but rather than make it out of three pieces - cut it out as a single piece and bend the 'ears' down as required. Possibilities are endless matey ;-) :punk:

Only cost me 6 quid matey :hammer: :taz::whistling::whistling:

Making one in clear acrylic today...

cool but what i meant was your nice ally one with acrylic bolted to it to form a complete cover over the cam pulleys. so shiny top and clear front.

would love to see an acrylic type too tho :punk::thumbup1:

wish i still worked in a fab shop coulda done stuff like this in my lunch breaks :( the guys in the polishing shop used to polish little bits up for me aswel which ws awesome. looks good, i ran open cambelt on my capri for ages with no issues, it seems a damn dame to go covering up the vernier pulley

OK managed to do a bit today (Sunday).

Added more 'material' to the cover and filled it out a bit to be a better fit and offer better protection to the belts.

Here is a couple of sneak peeks of the cover nearly fitted:

Not polished at the moment as more welding to do...

CIMG8784.jpg

As I mentioned I want to put my Aeromotive FPR and FF centrally mounted and the cam belt cover is going to home the FPR so I started to fabricate a bracket out of 50mm ally tube. Cutting it at 15 degrees so the FPR faces upwards slightly, I cut out a space to protect/cover the two water temp sensors and so tidy that area up a bit.

Mock-up looked like this:

Nice fit:

OK so all positioned and trial fitted now time to weld this baby on...

I routed a 50mm slot 2mm deep to sit the bracket in so that I could get some meat on the join - we don't want this baby falling off!!

Done - not tidied up yet...

The plumbing plan v4.2!! ;-))

CIMG8809.jpg

Also made some spikes that will be welded on in due course - like the engine bay is not hazardous enough!!!!:o11:

CIMG8814.jpg

Getting there - I still need to make a blank for the bracket visible under the front of the FPR - and that will incorporate a cable support for the water temp connections.

Thats it for now...

Mate - I don't work in a fab shop! By day - I am a mild mannered Technology Consultant - by night/weekend/snatched moments I am a frustrated designer/fabricator. :alucard:

Yeah my other zed has been cambelt free for 2 years - but I guess it only takes one time/stone/stick/cat/squirrel - so I am not recommending...
