Hi guys, i need to do spot of welding and thought it was about time to add it to my arsenal of tools.. so has anyone got any preferences, do buy and dont buy, any horror stories. one thing i have sussed is dont buy one with a live torch.

 

So i await your suggestions.

dont buy a gasless there rubbish a gas one will give you a much better cleaner weld. dont be tempted by the cheap ones if you intending to get alot of use out of it.

and dont be tempted by a snap-on or other high price tat as they all use the same Italian internals as say a machine mart model... try get a Cebora or other old established make and if you can get one with a Euro torch fitment as they feed the wire smoother and remember get the biggest (high ampage) you can afford as you can step down but cant step up the amps with a small one;)

can show you plenty of burns lol,make sure you get a good mask aswell,cant go wrong really with the seally stuff,very good value for the money plus spare torches and spares are cheap,will have to agree gas-less are sh*t hth

as for helmets, there's a guy on the forum who does them cheaper, weldequip is his forum name ;)
