After the roof painting exercise yesterday, went for the roof bars themselves today.

Decided to use black glossy vinyl, as a quicker and easier option, and one that I could easily reverse if I had to.

A huge thanks to Wooly for his advice, help and materials.

The job was OK, and got easier as I progressed. The great thing about using the vinyl is that I can easily redo any of the bars in the future if I decide the look isn't as perfect as I would like.

Overall, quite happy with the result and certainly makes the car look more modern. Photos attached.

I do however have some questions:

- How long is the vinyl likely to keep the gloss?

- Will the sun make the vinyl shrink?

- Can I wash the car as normal, and what's the impact on the vinyl? Can I use a sponge on the vinyl without worry?

- What will rain do to the vinyl?

Far better mate, you've done a cracking job

Excellent work! I keep meaning to do this to mine! infact it's been on my 'to do' list for about 5 years! lol

I job i will be doing. the vinyl should not shrink if put on right. Takes years and years to fade if its quality vinyl. Thats info from a mate who does signs and vehicle wraps for a living.

Do that and your car really will be perfect...I may even consider buying it when you finally decide to send it to a good home!

Looks nice mate.

I've been thinking about doing the centre T bar on mine white so it will just have the 2 black panels and the rest artound them will be white.

That sounds awful mate, sorry.

Looks good mate, certainly does enhance the look of the car, well woth the effort!

Just need to tint the glass now :cool3:

The vinyl will shrink but all vinyls shrink due to the way they are made, its the quality of the material that determines how quickly. With what you used there it will be years down the line really until you see paintwork, depending on how close your cuts were to the edges.

Just wash the vinyl same as the rest of the car and put a coat of wax on it as you do the car to keep it as glossy as poss, just dont use a compound like t-cut on it as that will dull it quickly! Use a polish not an abrasive.
