I have a slight misfire...

Its been like it for ages now but decided today to do something about it.

Basically the left hand exhaust 'splutters' whereas the right hand one is as it should be.

I changed the coil packs over left to right but its still the same, however I did notice the spark plug in the rear-right (looking from the front) had a bit of oil on the threads, not a great deal though. Would this indicate a problem? I've done a search but not really found the answers. What would I need to check now?

thanks in advance, the car goes ok but I can't help but think its not as good as it could be! :scooter:

that sounds like good news lol... would the engine not run at all if it was a major problem?

i have two engines in my garage each with damage to just the edge of the piston. they apparently ran ok just started to use oil and smoke.

does it smoke?

hmmm theres no excessive oil usage, and the car doesn't smoke, so I'll be keeping my fingers crossed I think! Would the ECU check or conzult bring anything up?

just re read your first post. oil on the threads is probably from installation nothing else. mate. if it was oil on the electrode then i would start looking into cylinder problems....

bump... does anyone have any other suggestions for what to check?

Missfire, oil in the plugs, oil in the inlet tracts.....I'd get a compression check done.

hmmm didn't think they could be related, will have to get it booked in for a check up. It always starts first turn of the key and drives ok, unless its the start of a big problem, hope not!

did you get to the bottom of this? ive gota misfire myself just wondered if you discovered the cause?

No mate, have been busy sorting other things out on the car, waiting for my mate to give me his compression tester then I'll get it checked. Unless I can get my conzult to work if that may flag up any problems?

dunno been faffing baout with mine, checked the coil pack by swapping over and checked im gettinga spark at the plug, which it was and ive checked the injector with the old screwdriver trick, gonna ohm it check its working properly then do a compression test like yourself, next thing im thinking is the ptu or summin maybe im gettinga spark just not at the right time. basics really atm feul spark compression timing? let me know if you sort yours il keep you posted on mine

just thought I'd update this thread in case anyone is searching for answers. Checked resistance on all the injectors and one was much higher than the rest... changed injector, job done :)
