cant remember exactly at what speed but you must be doing over 40 or 50 mph before it works,

Wont work till about 45mph IIRC its been a while, i changed my steering wheel and lost the use about a year ago.

The common reason for CC failure is normally just a switch....

At the back of the brake pedal there are 2 switches, one is the cruise cancel switch, the other is the brake light switch.

The brake light switch also cancels cruise when pressed (safety backup), but if faulty then obviously your brake lights wouldn't work....

The cancel switch IIRC is a normally closed which opens when pedal pressed, this interupts the cruise circuit. Sometimes this switch just needs adjusting, you can tell this is the case if you lift the brake pedal up whilst trying to activate cruise and it works.

If you have a manual car there will be another cancel switch on the clutch pedal...same applies.

Of course the switch can just be broken (mine was) so the cruise never operated because the computer thinks one of the pedals is pressed. I bridged it out to prove it and it worked. A new switch cost about £30.

Then of course you need the original steering wheel, press set at desired speed after the pod button activates the green cruise light.Once working you'll get a 2nd green light next to the 1st one think that says cruise.

Note jap spec cruise is limited from 30mph to about 68mph & won't activate outside that anyway. And as a 2nd note, if you sort this and want a higher cruising speed you can swap a UK spec CC ECU in. This alters cruise limits from 30 to 105mph - much better. I have done this!
