I have been told uk models are 280 BHP and Jap is 300BHP

Does anybody know for sure what the figures actually are ?

Featured Replies

The official Nissan figures are 280 (actually 276) for the Jap and UK Manual. (auto is 263)

and 300 for the U.S Manual (auto is 280)

The reasons for the differences are a little complicated and dont actually make much sense though..............

Jap models have restrictors in the exhaust after the cat which UK and U.S do not, but is mapped for higher octane fuel. UK modesl have a pre-cat and mapped for lower octane fuel , while the U.S model is mapped for even lower octane fuel still.

Then you have the whole 280hp "gentlemans agreement" in japan at the time where manufactuteres agreed not to produce cars over that power figure. Except its well know that other cars did exceed this figure (GTR, supra, GTO ..etc)

so thats the "official" figures....what they actually are would just be a guess.

Thought the Japanese agreement was 276bhp?

280ps , which is 276hp...which is the offical quoted figures (as per my post)

I do get confused between ps and bhp. Dave you said that jdm zeds had restrictors in the exhaust and the UK's didn't? My UK had a restrictor in it's oem exhaust when I removed it.

in the tailpipe near the join where the backbox joins to the cats ?

I thought it was Jap only....its possible somebody fitted a Jap catback on yours after the original rotted ?

Yep, here's a pic. It looked as though the exhaust was the original (going by the state of the rust on it!) but it may well have been bought as a replacement.

My UK was Dynoed at 317BHP @ 9.7psi before changing the Turbo's, Exhaust, ECU and adding boost jets. Was running the old Optimax at the time back then so that probably brought it up a little bit!

so im guessing that after a nice new free flowing exhaust has been fitted and that restrictor is gone and a little tune up session, timing, feuling etc have been done we should be looking at much more like the 300 bhp most of us thought are standard cars were. im often a bit confused by mine, one day it seems hell fast and nothing can catch me the next day i feel like my old 1.2 daily driver was quicker lol. (touchy bitch)
