My car misses like Emile Heskey from 2 yards out in the rain after a rainey night/day and when its sunny again it runs beautifully. SO there is rain getting somewhere any ideas the most likely place?

It's undriveable at the moment, it accelerates but is very choppy and misses/cuts out/revs all over the place.

Check you maf isnt getting wet.

also on mine in the engine bay i had some rubber seal missing on the rear of the engine bay. I presume the lad in japan did it to let hot air out.

But it was also getting the connectors wet on the bulk head on the drivers side. THere are 2 near the top.

Thats the problem i had. worth a look i surrpose?

agree with the MAF thing, common problem.

Yep sure is, open bonnet and undo two 10mm nuts. I assume you've got an aftermarket filter on?

I've had this before and it always turned out to be the MAF...under the nose panel connected to the air intake. A few 100mm bolt (IIRC) and you can unplug and replace...

You remember incorrectly lol.... thats a HUGE bolt :tt2::tt2:

Well the sun came out and was quite hot, warmed her up and drove her home - didn't miss a beat and pulled like Peter Stringfellow.

Need to find out where this water is getting too!

Well it rained again last nite and I drove the car to work, all was ok until (typically) 500 yards away from my destination and it started missing like hell (worst i've ever had in any car) and eventually I lost all power and it cut out. Started going again after about 6 failed starts and I crawled into work at about 5 mph.

I've had a faulty air flow meter on a previous car but it never caused it to cut out or miss like it does on my Z, i'm hoping that it is the MAF and nothing more sinister.

Defo maf related, do you still have the plastic shroud thing that covers under the maf?? mine didnt have it, and caused me loads of issues.

Or do you have a vented nose panel. again this would cause probs.

Mafs do not like getting even slightly damp let alone moist

i just had to lip home after the same thing it started at 4000 rpm and it was like hiting rev limiter the 2000 then really lumpy and its just cut out on me but it did start back up again and i dont want to rev my engine at this time in the morning.

Was it raining because if it was the main cause will be the MAF getting damp or wet as said above.

this is the first time it has happened to but just had a look and the nose panel and it looks like the water was seeping throw the bottom of past the rubber strip so i loosened the bolts pressed it down to put more pressure on the rubber and bolted it back up.

Just want to throw a spanner in the works (i'm no mechanic)........Spark plugs? Similar thing used to happen to a pug GTI I had turned out to be the plugs.

Sorry Dean, forgot to mention it in work the other day.

Its normal for a 205 GTI to break in the rain tho its french

I seem to remember that a member on here had the same issues, and fitted a "shield" around the a/m intake, to stop the water coming into contact with the filter, thus flowing into the maf. Just a little thought people....

Is there anything else that could cause this? Because the rain done me over today again (well it rained overnight). Took the nose panel off and MAF looks bone dry on visual inspection??

I made this up from sheet plastic to cover my Apexi , stops any water getting to the filter and MAF that,s dripping through the seal between the bumper and nose panel , worked a treat even though it looks like a pair of pants :whistling::whistling:
