Hi all, iv joined to the club as iam seriously looking buying myself a new toy. I am just doing some research at the mo into the running cost etc of 300zx, iv loved them for many years and now at the age when the insurance isnt to bad. I have had many performance cars in the past but never had a 3L V6 NA, not alone a 3L V6 Twin trubo :w00t: :.

iv seen them up for sale for about £1500, but for that price i will assume that its bottom end of the market?

Iam looking at spending closer to £3000. Or have reduced that much in price as most people cant afford to run them, with the current price of petrol?

Iv been using the search engine and read a few threads. Just have a few questions, with sensible daily drive to work i could exspect about 20-22mpg? But then at the weekend i would be having a little fun when possible and that would go down to 18mpg? Or even else than that?

PS is there anyone on here from the norwich norfolk area?

Are they reliable, i had a friend who owned one, then six months later the bottom end went!! I assume its the normal the words come to mind, service history, service history and service history!

welcome mate, my best bit of advice is to see a few, dont buy the first you see unless its a cracker. There are some total dogs out there for sale, but also alot of good ones. If your unsure at what your looking at, post a thread up, to see if someone who knows these cars car look over it with you.

Also have at look at the for sale section here, if a member is selling on here, i would look at it.

Running costs vary to how well looked after and driven, if your ok with mechanics, they look daunting, but not that bad. look after them and they will look after you

If you feel out of your depth, just ask, we are here to help.

Thanks for the advice, iam ok with mechanics but like you said they seem a little daunting at 1st. But after a little thought still follows the basic princeples of all engines, but always best to speak to people who know them well, like you guys on here.

Hi matey,

I am in Suffolk/Norfolk area. If you need a helping hand viewing wise or anything else buddy, give me a shout.

Welcome to the club... I'm self taught with mechanics over the years of owning cars, I bought mine for £800 with a seized turbo - it was an engine out job to fix it though. Its now a great car so it is possible to get a cheap good one, but I think I was just really lucky. Just take your time and get the best you can for your budget. I'm not 100% sure but you may find a UK model (twin turbo) is cheaper to insure than a non turbo - as this is an import. (maybe lol?)

Hi there and welcome. I have literally just bought a 300zx (about 3 weeks ago). It is INCREDIBLE. so much fun...

I DID buy the first one i saw (what an idiot eh?) but it turned out to be a great purchase. I got it for 2k and i had receipts for new turbos and a full engine rebuild. Firstly TOUCH WOOD, it hasnt cost me any money yet. The first thing i did was take it to zedworld which i would highly recommend. They do a full check up all round the car to tell you what it needs doing and what it doesnt! basically mine was all good except a boost leak which is very common.

Mine is a jap import, twin turbo and a manual and that is what i would recommend. You can get a decent one for 2-3k id say. Good luck with it, its definitely worth it!

£3k will buy you a good one, but it won't be perfect. Unless your lucky £1500 will buy a rough car that needs TLC.

I would expect around 22mpg on sensible daily driving, but way less than 18mpg when driving hard for lengthy periods.

I have just done a real steady tank full to see how economical my TT can be and it returned only 26mpg - crap. But thats not what we buy a 3litre TT for is it?!

I think they are generally reliable cars, but need looking after. Good idea to have a full health check done when you get one by someone who knows the 300zx inside out.

Welcome to the club mate i am not that far really down the road from you if you ever needed a hand :)

Marty

Welcome to the club, i joined Aug last year and have found the knowledge from the members is amazing.

Marty, back so soon from Ballare's

Rich

Dude that is out of reach of my budget! But i did look at it the other night and its looks lovely.

hi and welcome to the club I have an N/A and i use it daily getting around 25mpg(i tend to cruise rather that speed) Ive just decided to put it up for sale as ive now bought 2 short wheel bases. Im not suggesting it for you as we live too far apart but just as a guide as to what you can expect for £3000. Good luck in your search P.S Apache is in your area and he,s a top bloke even though he sold his car to me worth speaking to for advice. See my LWB in rides under mackammaz

Just read you post again, 26mpg on a eco test, thats alomst the same what i get with my lexus is200. I norm get 22mpg with normal driving and when iv done the same thing to see how economical i can be i got 26mpg aswell. Good to know that i would be using roughly the same amount of fuel aswell, apart from when i go out for a bit of fun.

Welcome to the club....

....and you could do a lot worse in your search than browse our "cars for sale" section. There's usually a decent one or two going in there.....

Good luck mate!

Richard:chef:

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

Welcome to the club mate, good luck in your search, you wont look back if you get a good one:thumbup1:
