Due to funds and time the Z is finally back on the road and

has now covered its first 100 miles faultlessly (Thank God !) .

Thanks everyone for advise that I required at the time,

especially "vodkashots" who kindly offered to come and

help if I went engine replacement route.

Harry (Little REDZED) is so chuffed and will be posting some

pics up tomorrow.

Long story, but back to title now : Can anyone give me info

regarding changing a 1991, jap import, na, manual, to a tt

manual.

1/Just wondered if na gearbox could be used or would it be good

idea to change engine and box ?(Thinking ratios different and if

tt engine upgraded it would probably rip na box apart ??)

2/Any links or info regarding the swap process greatly appreciated ?

I know its probably a hard and stressfull way but if deciding this route,

would you say buy an accident damaged/rough bodied tt to source

ecu, loom, intercooler, required parts, etc,???? Just thought it might be

the most economical way.

All info appreciated, cheers.

firstly the gearbox internals are the same. its just the bellhousings that are different. you can space out the starter by 2mm (i think?) and a little careful grinding of a section inside the housing will allow a tt flywheel to spin in there.

use your current diff and prop as some tt owners convert to it anyway for quicker acceleration but reduced top end. (when you going to be doing 170 mph anyway ;)

your current loom will work but it obviously doesnt have the wiring for the boost solinoids (if you use an aftermarket boost controller you dont need it anyway)

if you could afford it buy a doner car with fubar bodywork then you have most of the parts to convert. there is a good guide on z1 motorsport some one may have the link for you.

Thanks for quick reply, like the sound of the info you've given already.

Sounds promising, like the sound of quicker acceleration with a bit of

reduced top end.

Hope the info keeps coming.

All the best.

Which of the 2 cars in your Ride are you thinking of converting? assuming they're both yours?

Rich

Hi Rich,

Did own both many moons ago. The swb was a tt and that sadly got sold. The

one I was thinking of converting is the lwb (it now has the wheels that were on the swb).

At the moment just got the grey tt back on the road after bottom end rebuild."Little REDZED" Harry ,my son has just put photos of it ,in his rides

section.

Love this car so much and was going to sell red na to get some much needed

funds back.Trouble is "call me a soppy sentimental" ,I've owned the na since

May 2000 and I don't think me or the family could let her go.So lots of thoughts mulling around my head at the moment.

At the end of the day,the grey one has everything I love, wide arches, nice

wheels (in my opinion), twin turbo "love the power", 2+2 ,manual box, etc, etc.

Its going to be a very hard tug which ever way I go, so just going to do my homework and not rush into anything.
