Hi all!

Having hankered after a 'Z' for a looooong time, I decided it was time to treat myself and bought this last night..............

Now, I'm no stranger to cars with over average performance, but HOLY MOLY!! I wasn't expecting THAT!!

Anyway, while it seems to be mechanically sound, it'll need some cosmetic TLC and even though the previous owner said the timing belt had been done within the past two years, he had no proof so, I'll attend to that before very long. Is that a job I could do myself, (I'm fairly handy at wielding a spanner), or should I farm it out?

I have one more question for now. (I'm sure there'll be many more to come!!), The oil pressure seems to be quite, (very!), low on idle once it's warmed up. Is this normal? If not, is it likely to be a sticky sensor/guage or something more sinister?

Cheers for now,

Rod.

Welcome to the club mate,

The timing belt is a nightmare of a job, everything has to be removed from the front to get access, its not an easy job.

The oil pressure stock gauge is rubbish, they fail all the time! So i would get an after market one to be sure :D

Oh and welcome to the Bristol area, im your rep for meets etc :). Do you live in Bristol or just go there for work etc?

Hi, thanks for that. I guess I'll be getting my friendly local grease monkey to do that then huh?!?!

Anyway, I live in Scotland but work in Bristol through the week.

I'll keep my eyes open for Zed related things to do of a weekday evening.

Any guys on here fancy doing my cambelt one evening?

Welcome to the club matey.

Looks like a lovely example you got.

Thank you!

It's not bad. Body wise it's good except a small dent on the rear near side corner and the driver's door drops a little on it's hinges and mechanically it seems sound having had a new gearbox last year. It just needs some cosmetics doing. The driver's seat bolster is worn through and some of the interior trim has seen better days, some of the switchgear is either tempramental or the backlight is blown and the sound insallation is gash so that's getting ripped out PDQ.

Looking forward to it.

(I'm dreading taking it out on wet roads mind!!)

Hey mate, could you put your name down on the list in the ASG section :)

Welcome along, cracking Z you got there  any plans for it?

Thanks guys.

Yes it is quite tidy on the outside with the exception of a small dent in the rear n/s quarter and the drivers door dropping a bit on it's hinges.

Plans? Initially to get the interior sorted and just be happy that it's going to be reliable as this will be my, (most), daily driver and I need to be confident that it'll make the 400 mile trip home if needs be, (and back again!!).

I just spent two hours fitting a stereo that should've been a plug and play but tidying up the wiring from previous 'installs' was a challenge.

I'll be a frequent vistor. I'll go and have a look at that ASG list thingy.

Welcome to the club Rod - that looks a tidy example you have there.....!

As for the oil pressure problem, it's quite common for the sender unit to go bad; giving a low reading on hot idle. There are 2 solutions - aftermarket gauge/sender or replace the stock sender.

Be warned though, the stock sender unit will cost you around £80; even from our traders at their reduced rates:oops:

And don't bother buying second hand; it will not last 5 minutes:helpsmilie:

Richard:chef:

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

welcome to the club mate, that looks like a nice tidy example.

And they are more fun in the wet, just make sure you have lots of room to play... :gunsmilie:

welcome to the club mate, where abouts did you pick the zed up?

Bought it in Rugby on Tuesday night and drove it to Bristol.

It's got a reciept for a new gearbox from ZedWorld. Can anyone tell me if Jeff keeps records of the cars he's had through his door? I'm wondering if it's worth checking to find out any more history as I hardly got any with the car.
