Just noticed the steering seems a bit heavy.

It looks like the power steering fluid is a bit low, but not too bad, could this be the cause.

if not, any other suggestions

If so, is there a particular spec oil I need to get?

No Hicas light then, try topping up the fluid first tho'

Yeah just checked again, and the level of oil is just below the cold line, and the engine has been running so, should be near the hot line, bout 10mm up.

Is there a spec oil, do you know, or any spec PAS oil OK??

Isnt the power steering speed sensitive? Could be a speed sensor issue if so!

Failing that its time for an arm upgrade :D

Yeah true. but the heavyness was same whether slow or fast, upto 25 round a roundabout, so don't think it's related to speed in this case

Yes but the steering on these cars is light at low speed and heavier at high to improve feel, so it would default to heavy if there was a problem, it can be caused by dodgy kmph/mph converters IIRC

Mine did the same thing on Saturday. Went really heavy all of a sudden and stayed like that until i turned the engine off (speedo went off too for some stupid reason). Turned the engine on again and it was fine. Had problems with the battery the day before neediong to jump it to start and a garage said that may have affected it (damaged cell so not putting out as much power). got a new battery and all is fine.
