hi im new to forums and im new to the 300zx scene.

i have wanted one for years but have 4 children.

i have recently been able to afford one as i need ti have a family car as well as the new toy.

Im having a few problems tho its a 1990 twin T (auto)

when i accelerate the boost gage goes right up to 7 then drops right back down with no real kick.

the engine doesnt smoke and makes no tapping noises nor overheats

i suspect turbo or vacuum problems as other than this the car drives fine just slower than my 2.0 red top astra :(

any ideas would be apreciated ( already ordered a usb consult cable with software

ta

Welcome to the site Rob

Sounds like you have a nasty boost leak. Check all your pipes for splits and they are all conneted up properly. :)

u have a boost leak by the sounds of it have a good listen for any leaks under the bonnet or get a boost leak tester, u may have a hose popped off or split?

The joys of zed ownership!!! post this on the advise section as there are lots of people on here who know their stuff. Jimmer will know, hes the zed guru.

wow some quick replies there thanks guys, ill have a good search in the morning and look for some splits or come off pipes.

i hope its a leak (Easier than defective turbo's i guess)

and 1 more silly question what is a boost leak tester :S (sorry im thick lol)

as for zed ownership the worst car in the world to maintain is a seat ibiza cupra gti i spent 2.5 k in 3 months (Repairs & MOT Only) :(

since the thread states "first ever 300zx" i was expecting it to be a discussion about the first ever 300zx.

Since it's not, i'll just ask the question. what WAS the first ever 300zx, and what was the first year of manufacture. I thought it was the Z31 in the 80's but i don't know if the old Datsun Z's count.

ok in simlpe terms it fits in place of the air filter & you hook it up to a compressor for about 10 20 seconds & not more than 7psi (dont quote me on that) then listen for air leaking out as u will be able to hear it better for the engine is not running when doing this test!

there is a thread somewhere on here about making your own tester using a tesco coffe jar lid & a tire valve & it works perfeclty

I think you need to be a sub'd member for it to show, but it would be changed through your cp user panel (1st link to left on forum bar) :)

right i found one leak on the pipe from the intercooler back up ive fixed it by tightning it :D

i have taken for a quick spin and boost seems to be holding fine. mine states it in mmhg

-7 to +7 and it was holding at 3.5 to 4.5 mmhg is that about right for stock.

it doesnt appear to have any bov's but i can still hear a duming noise when i take my foot off the pedal i cant hear owt when foots down as the exhaust system rock s :D its still no where near as quick as my mates stock 3000gt twin turbo and i mean not even close so when i find all the leaks hopefully the power will be restored :D ill post later if power is still down

now quicker than the red top astra so was a major improvement :)

Welcome matey :) Once you get all the leaks sorted it should be a nad quicker than the gt ,depending on overall condition of both cars that is :)
