Now ive been using 10/40 semi synthetic, but of late and its not getting better, ive got some tapping at the top end, probably lifters. That i can live with, but ive now got what sounds like a baring or tensioner pulley noise, but appears to be coming from inside middle- ish of the engine.

It appears worse when warm, so oil thinner obviously, so to keep the noise getting on my nerves, its embarrassing when stopped at traffic lights etc in town, sounds like a diesel lol ( actually not that bad) im thinking of user a thicker oil, i had heard a member use 20/50 and seem to cure it or quieten down a bit. Any thoughts..............?

Im changing my engine in the summer when ive finished tarting up the new one in my garage, so its only a temp fix and im not racing it or anything daft, just casual everyday use.

Cheers

How often do you drive your car, i know my car is loud if i dont drive it for a week + at times. After a short drive it goes away.

Everday murt, i know its on its way, as i say im not too bothered i have a spare in the garage that could just go straight in , but while its there i want to put new gaskets and bits on and anything else that makes sense to do with it on a stand.

I dont think its going to blow up or anything, just would like it a bit quieter until im ready.

I want to change the engine when im ready, rather than having to lol

I tried that, made no difference, so probably too far gone for a lube to do the trick in clearing the lifters

I always use thinker oils in evercar i have ever had. Imo with it being thicker it add better protection. All i know is that every car i have or had runs sweet as

Ive never heard of a thinker oil, where do i get that from :lol:

By the way Dave, ive cleaned the skirt up and will box up at the weekend and get them off to you early in the week
