The 928 was one of the cars I was considering before I got the Z.

I seem to recall there are some copies of Magazine comparison reviews on the internet between the 928 and 300zx from back when the Z was launched

how did they fair Dave?

Nothing wrong with the 928 Bri!

I have always loved them - in fact I was looking to buy one before I bought my first Z. However after driving the Z I was hooked and thought it represented batter value......

......I'd still have one now!!

The last cars were the 5.4 litre GTS; production of the 928 stopped around 1995-ish. So you'll get an M (or possibly N) plate; but they tend to be a lot more expensive than the slightly earlier 5.0 litre S4 or GT models.

Last year a garage in my village was selling an M reg one (with 70k miles and FPSH) for about £18k. Lovely!!

Superb engines - gotta love that big V8!!!

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

Yeah!! When I started work in the late 1980s, one of the partners had the 928 S4; it was virtually new back then!! I remember going with him to see a client in Goathland, Yorkshire. He picked me up from my house in London and we covered the journey in less than 3 hours!!!

I remember him racing a V12 XJ-S along the A1 and handing the Jag its ass!!!

ahh 924..where they fully galvanised bodys Chris ??

Pretty good. Although a number of them thought the Z handled slightly better. I do really like the 928.

Here's the Strosek one. Silly vent in the rear of the sill aside, it's a beaut.

Unsure to be honest Bri, i believe so from what i heard through my 944 ownership though, i only bought the 924 one to sell on, i paid 300.00 for it and it only failed the mot on a window wiper and wheel bearing lol, it also had a Janspeed system so was very loud

....and having internet issues at min :( up to 2 router reset's now :helpsmilie:

Edit- it lost my comment to richard :( madness looks like i have issues here! (right fixed i hope)

Bit of a coincidence, I nearly bought a 928 s4 Gemballa, lovely looking car but I just missed out on it before I bought my zed a few years ago, only yesterday I started browsing for one again!

Haven't seen a Gemballa come up again since I missed out on that one. Also have a bit of a soft spot for the 944 s2 cab, the sensible half of me (the top half!) says it will be less hassle to run but the other half says just get a 928 :cool2:

they have a very technical cambelt tensioner that stretches as the motor gets hot and expands ive read:eek:

I still kick myself when I think about it...I was a couple of months away from being 25 and being eligible for classic insurance at the time (4 years ago) and didn't want to insure it someone else's name then transfer over to me at later date...wish I had now!

I think if i still went down the Porsche Route it would of been the 928 or maybe the 968 (one day)

I've always had a soft spot for the 928.

A friend of the family had one, and as a surprise on my birthday one day in primary school, he picked me up in it and we went for a long drive then he dropped me off at my party at the local 10 pin bowling place. I told everyone that it was my uncle but it soon backfired when someone asked him if he really was OOPS LOL

I used to have a 1991 H 928 S4. Fantastic car that looked and sounded great. Get the later S4/GT/GTS models and they look bang up-to-date. Dated interior though and hideously expensive for petrol. Had a few reliability probs with mine but I had a really good mechanic.

Nowadays the mechanics is the key. They are difficult cars to maintain and you really really want someone who knows their stuff (928 specific, not just Porsche).

I tried to build a 944 with a 968 conversion about 7 years ago i removed all the 944 front end and fitted glass fibre 968 panels. The quality was of the panels was pants nothing lined up properly it was complete crap.I lost interest and gave the car away as i not enough room for that and the z31 id just inherited. The 944 was a really good car though, drove it every day for 2 or 3 years with no problems.
