but i have been playing with a picture i took the other day with my new DSLR.

just wondered what you think .its made up of 4 ev stepped pictures firstly combined to give 1 image then tweeked in photoshop with tone mapping.

i will get better but as a true first attempt im quite happy with it.

Thats good Gaz, HDR is something I'm still yet to try. Thats the sort of picture that'll look good in black and white, brightness down contrast up... then the rear lights back in colour ;)

cheers guys. just got myself my first dslr, a sony alpha d500 with two lenses 18-55 and 75-300.

it has an auto hdr function built in but it only combines 2 images ideally you need 4 so went back to manual.

i need to get a tripod next to be able to keep it steady enough.

Nice pic. There are numerous types of "HDR" image and it depends what you're going for. They can be used for the sort of "fantasy" effect as posted above or for generating an image that gives the most realistic-to-life exposure possible (almost as your eye would see it), amongst other uses...

i really like the fantasy effect, but not to ott. there is an american pickup i saw and that was the pic that convinced me to give it a go.

i will see if i can find it.....

Wow the last pic is great very highly detailed, i have some anime art pics at home along with some alien world backgrounds etc, but there far from crisp :(

Chris

this is it,

That's nice. I see a lot that are extremely OTT which I'm not a huge fan of...

Plucked straight from the net ;)

high dynamic range imaging (HDRI or just HDR) is a set of techniques that allow a greater dynamic range of luminances between the lightest and darkest areas of an image than standard digital imaging techniques or photographic methods. This wider dynamic range allows HDR images to more accurately represent the wide range of intensity levels found in real scenes, ranging from direct sunlight to faint starlight.[1]

The two main sources of HDR imagery are computer renderings and merging of multiple photographs, which in turn are known as low dynamic range (LDR)[2] (also called standard dynamic range (SDR)[3]) photographs.

Tone mapping techniques, which reduce overall contrast to facilitate display of HDR images on devices with lower dynamic range, can be applied to produce images with preserved or exaggerated local contrast for artistic effect.
