Hi All,

Am looking to buy a 1997 twin turbo manual J spec having been a Supra owner for the last 3 years. Can anyone give me performance for this car in standard trim. What engine mods should be considered first and how much are we talking and what sort of power increase, looking to spend about 3 to 4 K. Any help greatly appreciated

basically a manual tt has 280bhp standard and with a chip, filter, exhaust and boost controller your looking at around 400bhp and 400ftlb of torque although custom mapping would be better.

with those mods on average its about 360hp to 380hp 0/60 iwll be around 5 to 5.5 secs

I have a supra as well as the zed and the zed is the much nicer car to drive, better driving position and better feel through the wheel :)

Welcome,

On the road peformance is about the same between MkiV Supra and the Z32. I know on paper the Supra is supposed to be a few tenths quicker , but having worked and been around many of each for several years I can say there really is'nt anything it it.

Typical Published Figures for the TT manual :

0-60 - 5.5 secs

1/4 mile - 14.2 secs

top speed - 175'ish (unrestricted)

Although Car and Driver magazine achieved a 0-60 time of 5.0secs and 13.8secs 1/4 mile in there tests in a SWB TT Manual.

Your basic Initital modifications :

Induction Kit

Decat Exhaust

Chipped ECU

Raise boost to 13-14psi

Expect to see anything from 350-360 fwhp typically, sometimes more. Knock your 0-60 into the high 4's, and 0-100 to under 12secs (14secs stock).

Your then at the limits of the stock Injectors, although stock turbos wont see you much further. There are other bolt-ons you can do to help improve response and power, like any car - Lightweight Crank pulley, Lightweight flywheel, 1 piece prop, Downpipes and Decats.

Next step is where gets more expensive - Injectors, Intercoolers, Turbochargers, Forged pistons...etc

just needs the chipping before you up the boost, you dont have to faf about with ristrictor rings like you do on the soop.

What mod are you on about ??

Nope, there's no Fuel cut.

good decision bud... my advice would be not to focus on a late model thinking your getting a better or updated product... from the series 2 onwards (94+) due to financial constrictions and legislations nissan had to cost cut on the spec and increase the emmision control on the engines.

you pay a bit more for a later spec'd zed (although the 97 posted here seems a very good price assuming all is in order) when you're actually getting a lesser spec'd car. the series 2 is also alot easier to come by so you will be able to pick and chose from a wider range. there are also plenty of lower milage series 2's about if thats your concern, imo the s2 is the model to go for. you just need to decide whether you want a long wheel base/short wheel base, manual/auto, na/tt.. etc.

happy hunting and dont hesitate to ask for any help and advice on potential purchases as there will always be some1 here to help.
