tt to n/a

i was just wandering if there was a way of changing my car from a tt to an n/a other then replacing the new engine i was told by a friend that i may be able to just get rid of the turbos and i was wandering if this was true or not or would it be a new engine jobby?

If you got rid of the turbos you would have a low compression vg which would be of less use than a sack of mouldy potatoes unless you were planning on bolting a big supercharger to the top.

why would you want to ?

save on fuel, but likes the car he has?

But to go TT to NA, remove turbos, and associated pipe work, remove inter coolers, you would need to plug turbo oil feed pipe work, or re-route it. and the same for the turbo water feeds. also you would need to change the manifold for a NA one. you would also need to change the balance bar, or block the vac lines associated with the turbo one, as its different on a NA.

i might of missed something out, or added too much, but its a rough idea of what will need changing.

Turbo charging gives an increase in power by improving the efficiency of the engine - removing the turbos would probably worsen the fuel consumption!

Why would you want to remove them?! Not a great idea as stated due to the low compression of a turbocharged engine!

I would agree on this for another car, but with the 300zx, like you have said they changed the compression ratio, so the off set is higher fuel consumption on the TT but more power delivered over the NA's lower fuel consumption with lower power in the mid range. had they bolted the turbos to the NA engine, if you could hold off flooring it everywhere, I'm sure you might see a slight increase in MPG.

But id say, if he wants a NA in the same car, best option would be to get a NA engine and do a engine change. then sell the TT one. less fussing about as well.

There is not much of a Fuel difference between the NA and TT. A couple of mpg difference on average, The TT actually does better mpg than the NA on a motorway cruise. Its only when your really hammering it that the fuel usage difference becomes more apparant.

But as said, engine swap is the only viable option. You dont want a low compression NA engine. Less power and more fuel consumption than a standard NA ! - Its all about efficiency. It would be unresponsive and couldn't fight its way out of a wet paper bag.
