Was just finnishing the last few bits so the battery could go in to try and get the car running.

jacked the car up with two hydralic jacks on the middle of the cross member at the front. Firstly using a small one to then get the big one in there to get it high enough to put on ramps.

The front of the car was on concrete with the two rear wheels backed out of my garage onto my shingle drive way. I checked it was central on the cross member as I jacked it up using the the big jack, the back of the car must have slid back on the shingle as it went up and it fell off the jack.

With a loud thump the car slid back off the jack and then fell back down. The jack then was forced into the bottom of the sump making a huge dent about an inch deep before it fell onto the small jack I also had under there!!!.

Cut a long story short I guess its either an engine out job, or all the front suspension will need to come out to replace it. Im just hoping it has not damaged anything inside the sump when it fell onto the jack????.

I am soooooo pissed off right now I cant tell you........

Can you replace the sump with the engine still in the car, if you remove all the suspension and cross member???

Just my luck, only plus side is I never go under the car on a jack at all, even if there are two of them there so at least I was not crushed in the process.

Wow mate, bad times! Like you said, good job you weren't under it! I had a close call once, nearly soiled my undies! I think the sump can be removed with the engine in, might have to remove the crossmember tho, fingers crossed no damage has been done to the internals matey....

I am hoping the internals are ok as the thick power steering pipe was jammed in between the jack and the sump so that stretched and took some of the weight and softened the blow a bit being rubber. So gutted literally just as everything was put together this happens, I was just putting a new under tray on and the last bit of the exhaust.

ouch, good job the smaller jack saved it. Glad your ok. and there was no more serious damage.

Its relatively simple to drop sump, you need to undo the engine mounts and Lower the subframe enough to give clearance, no need to pull engine or remove subframe/suspension.

You will need to support engine though, this is ideal - http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/1-2-TONNE-ENGINE-GEARBOX-SUPPORT-/190376021469?cmd=ViewItem&pt=UK_Lifting_Moving_Equipment&hash=item2c534b8ddd

Depending on where it hit its possible you have dented the oil pickup, but I would not expect any further damage.

Bloody hell mate!! you were lucky (ish) As Legrath has mentioned its probably an easy repair and hopefully not too much damage done in side!

Nearly ready for the road then!! good luck with the final bits :cool3:

That sump I fitted? Boo! :(

Gutted mate, sorry to hear that! Hope you can get it sorted soon. If ya need a hand, just shout!

Martin, I have an oil pick up pipe you can have, let me know if you need it and I'll get it sent over pronto.

Sorry to hear this mate, you must be really pi**ed off! I always put a couple of big blokes front and back of the wheels when I jack it up.
