Hi, my 1989 TT seems to be running rich. The fuel economy even for this car is terrible. 10 mpg around town taking it very easy, 15-20 on a run.

The car is standard as far as I know apart from Cat-Back stainless steel exhaust system( standra manifold I believe). The 5 inch tailpipe inners are coated with soot. My father pointed this out.

Just wondered whether it was an easy jot to tune the car or is an ECU issue???

one of the reasons for running rich are faulty lambda sensors or the water temp sender

Try giving the temp sender a clean. Its the brass one on top of your water pipes at the front, there are 2 on it so you might as well give them both a clean.

lambda sensors can be bought from Danny @ DTA :chinese:

Sounds about right to me! When you say on a run what sort of speed are you sat at? Also is the car manual or automatic?

welcome to the 300zx's least redeeming feature hehe. If you drive with low revs like a saint it's acctually not much worse than the average town car (1.8-2.0). But the second you start boosting to impress the kids the fuel consumption is ridiculous, but what would you expect? :)

....average speed 80 mph on a run!!!

Is it an auto or manual? Air filters all clean etc? 80mph is a high cruise speed. I tend to do 65-70 and get mid 20's.
