Hello all,

Long time no speak, The Z has failed its MOT and I do not have the time or money to fix it. I would like advice on whether to break it or to try and sell for spares / repair.

In summary the Mot failed it on crossmember and break lines.

I have set up website if people would like to have a look and request stuff here

I am also willing to sell the car if someone would like the project, nothing wrong with the engine, body, gearbox etc just those two points!!

Will put the Mot certificate up soon.

PS the car has a cherished plate which will stay with the car if you buy it.

Worth about £500 (J5 GDL)

Cheers

zx_steve

Yes, unfortunately it is. :crying:

Car has given me a brilliant couple of years but unfortunately the rust got the better of her!!!

How are you doing, what are you driving now??

Same as yours, uk manual TT. That was the first Z that I owned and it was a dream come true... had a few since! May be a heavy handed MOT tester, my brake pipes at the back have surface rust on but a mate said about cleaning them up and undersealing, they look bad but often its no where near dangerous. Do you know anyone in the motor trade? If so may be worth a word to see if they can help you out with getting it through an MOT. The crossmember maybe more of an issue, but theres garages round here that weld cheap so would imagine there would be some your way too.

OK so, will get phots at weekend and would love to hear what ppl think about the work.

Has anyone done anything like this before?

What sort of cost for welding the cross member / fix brake lines??

Thanks

zx_steve

as you are in medway you are very close to d2 as they are only in strood, pop down there and have a word with darren and im sure he will sort it out for you and you will be suprised at how little he charges too :) they are one of if not the best zed specialist around and the only place i will trust with my zed so you can be assured your zed is in safe hands there.

Why have I not heard of them before!!

I will have a look on way home from work tomorrow!

THanks for info would dearly love to get it working again, must admit the garage I took it to may have been lets say looking for work maybe??

Thanks for info.

Well, if anyone's car ever fails on the MOT, always ask them to point out the cause of the failure, alot of people dont and can get stung for work involved when there really isn't any. not saying everyone is like that, but its surprising how many will try and push a job out of it.

Yes I believe so, the parents are now pestering to get the car moved off their garden ;-)

I am looking at either selling (breaking / as whole) or possibly taking Mot failure certificate to D2 in strood to see what the damage would be!!

If its not too steep may possibly go for it for one last year!!

Brake lines ??? Which ones?? All of them??

What do you mean by crossmember? the engine crossmember or is it the lower radiator support panel/crossmember??

The size and exact nature of the failures are neccessary to know before you can make any proper assessment of what to do.

You know what Pete, I'm pretty sure I bought a rad crossmember off you yonks ago, the more I think about it, sure it was for this car. But come MOT time it wasn't noted as a failure. What this means to Steve, is the difference of opinion of MOT testers, and fishing for work, they could well be being picky? I may still have it somewhere, or you are welcome to the one I have on my current breaker sat here (if you need it)

Baz,

Will take to Mot cert to D2 today see what they say about the work, if I can supply Xmember may make it cheaper.

What you looking for it posted?

If I can remove it ok / find the other one probably about £25 delivered matey

Will certainly be better if you can supply it, because god knows how much a garage would charge just for the crossmember alone.

The member is £200+ from Nissan, its in three parts a centre and two wing brackets all of them are welded in place, to remove and replace is a complete strip down of the front end, a big job when paying by the hour.

Jeff TT

Thanks for poppin in to see us here at D2 .

Sad to here about another Z in trouble.

Good luck with what ever you decide on the car mate.

Regards

Daz.
