I'm thinking about replacing my tailgate with one that has had the wiper removed. I was wondering what people thought about the rear wiper. Do you really need it? etc...

What do you think?

No, don't really need it (then again, I don't need my front wipers as they never get used), but would rather keep it than have redundant switch gear.

It all depends on what you are doing to your 300. If you are moddding it, then get rid. If you are trying to keep her original, then keep it. I got rid of mine, looks smoother at the back. Simply removed and placed a rubber grommet in the hole with some silicone.

I voted yes.....

.....but it does look better without! The rear 'screen is too large and too steeply angled; so the rain just obscures your rear vision. Not that may people will be keeping up with you.....

....And when I'm in my daily drive, which doesn't have a "bidet," I find myself missing the facility.

Still, I guess there's always Rain-X...

To be honest I use mine very little but when the rear window is unclear its very useful then again I think the zed looks better without it:confused1:

Thats what i'm thinking..lol Want to keep the original look. I'll be putting a 99 spec spoiler on as well.

Pro's for ditching seem to be; Looks better, UK spec so no wiper=no wiring req (except the demist), won't get crap building up around the base of the wiper.

Con's; Not able to clear the screen and redundant switch on pod.

Just don't do a rubber bung. If you're gonna remove it, do it properly. Remove everything, weld up the hole, light skim of filler and paint.

Ford used to fit their poverty spec MK3 Fiestas with a rubber bung. The Popular and Popular Plus versions came sans-rear wiper and had a cheap-ass looking bung stuck on the back to plug the hole. Surely a wiper would be better than a rubber bung?

When i get round to painting my spoiler i will fill the hole properly, but for now a bung will suffice.

Rear wiper would be better. ;)

My 300 is far from standard so the rear wiper is gone. On a standard example then yes, looks good.

Al.

I'm not talking modified or unmodified. A wiper is nicer than a bung until which time you would have done it properly. ;)

Dave, Madmax has a 99 rear spoiler and no wiper and it looks pretty good. I quite like 'em without the rear wipers, but wouldn't remove mine.

I think i get something in my mind and i have to do it, and do it now. (normal bloke thing).

Al.

Will have to have a poll.....

"Who has removed the rear wiper and used a bung.....:tt2:" lol

My current tailgate with wiper needs some rust fixing (usual place) has had the old spoiler removed, so needs the holes welded. Also needs to be filled, smoothed and resprayed. The one I'm thinking of has been smoothed with no wiper but had an R34 spoiler attached, so if the holes don't match the 99 spec (which they probably don't) I will need to get them welded etc.

Sounds like an easy choice but, I don't know which way to go :confused1:

I`ve removed the wiper and metal bunged it!!! looks sooo much smoother without

Well if the new tailgate will need work done then may as well just finish your own ?

I've removed my wiper and it now has insulation tape over the hole

my tailgate is dewipered and properly smoothed over (thanks to Jay ;) ) looks much better and i can't recall a time when i've needed the rear wiper...

Mines gone and smoothed...i've never missed mine.
