Airline passengers are facing massive disruption as ash from a volcanic eruption in Iceland moves across UK airspace.

Newcastle, Aberdeen, Edinburgh, Glasgow and Belfast airports are shut and five easyJet flights due to depart from Stansted Airport have been cancelled as a result of the huge plume of ash.

No flights are to be allowed in or out of UK airspace from midday to 6.00pm amid fears of engine damage.
