Has anyone seen that email that is going around asking people not to buy petrol from BP as then if everyone does that they will reduce their price and hence others will follow?

Could it work?

We wont know unless we try but I guess that is the step most people stop at. ie Thinking about it.

Plus if there is not another garage for miles away thats hardly easy to manage for some people. I dont think its fair either that people in rural areas pay more for their petrol I have noticed quite a big difference and I dont buy all the arguments about increased costs to get the fuel to rural locations when we are talking about multi billion global companies doing business here we are only a small country.

Either way these increasing fule prices are really hitting us hard and I dont see it changing no matter what flavour political party we have in givernment in the near future.

Its monday morning, cant you tell it.

Hi sorry this email was not like the one last year this one is new and not about stopping for one day it is about just stoppig buying fuel from BP all the time to get them to drop their prices. It is harder to do though as it requires motorists to be consistent in not purchasing fuel from BP.

I think petrol prices are a less now than they were years ago given pay rises and inflation etc. maybe its because my first car ownership era was the late 70s and remember firmly been only able to fill it up on Fridays when I got paid! it was the now unthinkable price of 63pence a gallon yes that was 63 pence a gallon I said which equates to something like 14 pence a litre!

So now at say £1.20 a litre thats around 8.5 times more, BUT my wage then was around £20 a week times that by 8.5 and you looking around £170 so given the minimum hourly wage in this country is £5.93 on a forty hour week you top line £237.20 but remember thats minimum wage, the average wage is more like £350 to £400 so in real terms the actual percentage of your earning that goes towards petrol cost is less than in 1979. see the link below compiled by the AA for the full story, makes an argument for raising the cost of fuel for the poor hard done by fuel companies I think............Not only joking.

Its all relative really, we have so many other things in life now that are using our cash up, imagine in 1979 how many less gadgets and home electronics for one that where not available, and stageringly the mortgage rates of around 15% in those days and people managed ok....its a weird world thats for sure.

what is it you do mate

It wont work, people need fuel they will just put more fuel in the day before.

Exactly - targetting one brand will have no effect whatsoever. And then to a lesser extent there is the "loyalty card" system - you know; Shell pluspoints, BP and Nectar etc etc. If you are going to spend £80+ on a tank of fuel (as I did on Friday) you want to get something back for your money; no matter how small it might be!!

Its the govenment that hike the price up with all the tax on fuel, greedy fookers:gun_bandana:

87p A litre is tax you need to VOTE at the next election

Both spot on! The Conservatives have mentioned a sliding scale of duty; when oil prices force up the price of fuel they will reduce the tax. And when oil prices slide again, the tax increases. OK the increase part is still bad; but at least it offers consistency in the price we all pay at the pumps.

LOL so true! Noticed how Evian spelt backwards reads naive.....? No? well I guess if anyone hasn't noticed they are probably shelling out £1.50 for a litre of clear stuff that falls out of the sky regularly in this country........
