pulled the engine on my 1990 auto TT a few weeks ago and have only just got round to re-fitting it. Everything is all plumbed in fine apart from the alternator. I have forgot how the wires go.

I have a small metal thingy with a wire coming off with a hoop electrical terminal on the end, two other wires with hoops on the end and an electrical connection with some other wires in.

Now i know the electrical connection goes into the alt (only place it can go), but where do the others go?

If possible, does anyone have any pictures of it?

Thanks

I´ve not yet had to play with the alternator, but looking at the wiring diagram it looks as though a total of 5 cables come off the alternator:

a white one and a red and white one together ( W W/R)

2 white ones together ( W)

1 Black one on it´s own ( could be brown or blue ) ( B )

looking at the diagram the white + white and red one goes onto a larger bolt on the alternator ( ground perhaps)

the two white ones go onto the inside connector (between the larger bolt and the outer most connection)

the black one on the outside connector

Hope that´s of some help

Thanks very much, its the larger black one on its own that im having trouble with. Its quite thick (6mm o/d). Ill try that now.

the cable for the alt, has the plug for the alt, and two wires close to it with hoops on them, that screw onto the back of the alt. hope that helps. then one end goes up towards the drivers wing area, the other end goes down to the gear box, there is a picture floating about but i don't have time to find it. ill have a look later and see if i can dig it out for you.
