right im getting really confused...

my z has a decent exhaust set up, decent induction kit, its super chipped, and still only seems to run 313 bhp ....

its a TT LWB auto, and its had the box rebuilt, engine has recently had all its gaskets replaced, even before that its only done 57,000 miles...

everyone said 400 bhp was easy to get, so what am i missing? i have 440ft/lb torque,

where should i go from here?

Your main power increase will come from increasing the boost. You dont mention an increase in your spec. Most other mods are Supporting mods, designed to allow you to increase the boost and dont particulaly offer a significant increase themselves.

Also....are you running a "superchips" branded chip ? If so, get rid and replace with a Chip from John Dixon, AndyP, DTA or Zedworld.

sorry to hijack but so we are aware.. what sort of prices are we looking at for chips? (the tunable type) :)

This figure seems to me to be inaccurate. Most rolling roads with Zed's all tend to pump out the same sort of figures for people with the same Setup (Chip, exhuast and air filter) and we all hit around 330bhp (My retest with no adjustments showed 343.3) so we can estimate that realistically you will achieve more like 340-350hp with the 'traditional' setup.

400bhp will require far more work involved. 313 isnt bad at all by all mean (i have 30bhp more and we have almost identical torque, then again i have a manual which will probably result in the difference in torque)

Also bear in mind if you want upped performance, reducing weight is free and improves performance. Although the pub talk bhp figure isnt higher your Power to weight will be which is what really counts!

I believe most of those I mentioned charge between £75 and £150 to supply and fit one of their remapped chips to your ECU.

Your torque figure sounds inaccurate.

A good exhaust and filter will only release about 10 - 20bhp. Superchips chip are codswallop. I knew someone that fitted a superchips chip, got a slight raise in rev limit, but 1bhp down on stock book figures.

As has been said, on the Z, a chip won't alter the performance, merely a fuel map change to cope with supporting modifications...namely a boost increase.

boost is everything really, i got 372bhp at 0.9 bar with bad fuelling.

Hi buddy;

Let me give you some good advise; I have been through this many years ago. First: what i HP? There are HP om rear wheels and HP on flywheel (engine) Which one have you measured?

There is at least 10% (some say 15% on a standard HP engine) lower HP on wheels. So 280 original BHP on the European version, means 240-250 HP on the rear wheels. If your 313 is rear wheel HP, you have more than 350 engine HP. That sounds not so bad, it is 70 more than original.

I have tried the Super Chip, and it gave almost nothing compared to all the promises and the price. It was a big disappointment. You don`t need any new chip: the original one can be used up to 1000 BHT. Not so many knows this. Search of the forum for those who have knowledge about this. It is absolutely not necessary to buy any new and expensive fuel management system or chip. The fuel management system is what it all is about, and here you will find all answers to what you need; turbo boost and more fuel is the essence. If you keep your aspirations below 400 rear wheel horses, and you have good exhaust pipes for proper breething, then everything is about the chip and the tuning. Return the super chip (sometimes called super shit), ask for your money back, and find someone in the UK with software to handle the original chip. You have a super car, and there are few obstacles from getting 400 BHP. talk to the right guys !! Simple but difficult anyway....:wink::wink:

Good luck.

thanks alot everyone,

the chip was fitted before i got the car only had it 1 month,

the dyno was 313 bhp (at the flywheel) think its was about ~256 RWHP, i have to say i've never seen a dyno graph like the one i have, it makes barley any sense, the car desnt seem low on power just the figures do, ill try to up load the graph tomorrow see if anyone else can make sense of it...

i believe it to be a "superchip" as in the brand, the exhaust and induction kit are up to the job, and it does have 2 manual boost controllers fitted ( don't worry then are going in the bin as soon as i get paid i can get a profec b) according to the hugely inaccurate boost gauge its still at stock boost levels,

does anyone know any good dynos in the sussex area? will get it re done then.

as for weight saving im only doing what can't be seen like spare wheel etc, as i like it my z the way it is, right down to the really heavy shag pile rugs lol

correct me if im wrong, but with the profec B fitted, and the boost turned up, along with the existing mods, and a replacement chip i should be able to get the power up? im just trying to get it sorted before japfest, as i have track time and i dont want to let the side down...

313 bhp is a very respectable figure for stock boost levels. Yes, increasing the boost to around 13-14psi will give you a very noticable power increase.

Hi again;

What I can tell you, is that someone has messed with your car. A real amateur from what you write. Nothing makes sense.

I recommend you again; get hold on a professional who knows what he`s doing. And don`t buy any new parts, you have all that is needed. Get rid of the "super shit" - it`s a waste of time. You need brain power from an expert, nothing less and nothing more. :gun_bandana::gun_bandana:

thanks, im going to get the profec B more because i want rid of the manual controllers,

will i need to get hold of a standard ecu eprom chip to replace the superchip?

does anyone know anyone in the sussex area that knows what they are doing?

was going to take it to gerald dale motorsport in bexhill i think? anyone used them?

  • Author

well i bought the car in Manchester, near my uni and brought it home to sussex, and just found out the chip that was fitted was not a super chip,

it was a programmable chip fitted by Gerald dale motor sport in bexhill, and it turns out it was fitted back when the z ran a standard exhaust and filter ( back in 2003!!!), which explains the lack of power,

im going to book it back in with them for a retune to its current set-up and get it re dyno'd,

if it came from sussex, years ago im just wondering if its original owner is still about... small world.... thanks for everyones help

All you need is a free flowing exhaust and filter, a decent boost controller like a profec b set at say 14psi, and speak to one of the traders on here tell them the spec of your car and order the suitable chip......simples
