HI all,

does the original spoiler come in different variations.

I have seen pictures where it appears to cover the black tinted plastic on the boot and pictures where this is still visible.

Are there 2 types of spoiler or is it just a case that this piece of tinted perspex is simply painted the same colour as the car in some earlier models?

Cheers

Peter

Where as I stand totally alone with my quite rare 94-98 table spoiler. Met alxlaw the other nite To give him some bits and he was another one to ask me what spoiler was on the car. Lol i do prefer the 99 spoiler BUT it's just a bit done to death!

got to agree with you I too have the table spoiler on my 96 LWB and i prefer it to all the others including the 99:taz:

The tailgates on LWB and SWB models are NOT the same, as the SWB is some 8 inches shorter! However the spoiler probably is the same as I think the length is lost near the roof end of the tailgate but i could be wrong

Ive measured it and I agree but I just wanted to be sure thanks Quavey ill be off to the wanted site now then lol

Does anyone have any pics of the Swb and lwb together. Don't think I've seen a Swb one before.

LWB also referred to as 2+2

SWB also referred to as 2+0

As said the quickest/easiest way to tell from the outside is the petrol cap location.

Overall length difference is 8.5".

Wheelbase length differnce is about 5".

Weight difference is about 50kg (targa model)

LWB has rear seats, whereas the SWB is a 2seater with a deeper boot.

LWB only avilable with Targa roof.

SWB Available as Targa, Slicktop and Convertible.

All UK models are LWB TT.

SWB only available here as Japanese Import, and in TT or NA.

That's the ticket legrath! Interesting how different they are, I hadn't realised the implication of the short wheel base was of course a loss in material between the rear of the door and the wheel arch. Spoilers look the same though. Sport version certainly not as graceful as the estate I have to say!

Thanks for that. Very interesting.

I wondered why some had the filler cap before the arch. thought it was a difference between UK and Jap.

Out of interest, what was the point of the SWB 2 seater?

Peter

It was a cheaper model in the Japanese line up, also the rear seats on the 2+2 cars are fairly token and only good for children at best.

The main advantages of the SWB are that you can have a tintop, which is much stiffer and lighter than the LWB cars with their targa, although the SWB targa does offer a weight saving over the LWB as well, just not as much as the tintop/slicktop. You also get a more nimble car due to the shorter wheel base, the car feels much edgier to drive and seems to handle the twisties although this could be because of the lower weight. Having owned Both LWB and SWB i will say i much prefer the SWB to drive.

Although im going to get flamed for this I actually prefer the looks of the LWB, although popular opinion tends to say the SWB looks better

Its not a cheaper option, its a variance in lineup - Some people prefer 2seater sports cars, others prefer 2+2's.

The original Z's (240z) were all 2seaters, then Nissan started offerign 2+2 varients with the 260z onwards.

The SWB is meant as the Sportier model and the LWB is the Grand Touring model.

They drive very differently. The SWB is quicker and more nimble, while the LWB has room for small children/amputee's or luggage for a long road trip.

In the U.S (the Z's biggest market) all Twin Turbos are SWB, and LWB's are Non-turbo.

They were cheaper! LOL Mine and yours were the cheapest way to get a TT in Japan! Hence why they are so basic and have no kit on them. Mine only has manual heater controls, and no cruise!

yes, between SWB and LWB there was a small price difference (in the same way Estates cost more New than the saloon version LOL), My point is that they did not make them to be a cheaper option, just two different styles.

The slicktop was cheapest though, as you say becuase all the standard extra's that came on Targa models were not standard on the Slicktop. So you could have a back to basics sports car option. You had to add the stuff on as options if you wanted them.

Although my slicktop came with everything - Electric seats, cruise, digital aircon ..etc - which would of cost the same (or more) as a Targa model.

Ah right, i think its because mine is series 4 with massive cost savings, but yeh I know what your saying that it was cheaper not to sell more but simply it was a smaller car etc. Back to basics sports car sounds about right for mine, our new ride on mower has more tech on it that my car lol

Both look very nice but i think i definately prefer the LWB version.
