March 30, 201015 yr Im going to be welding up and respraying the rear hatch. Id like to replace the glass trim at the same time and ill use a universal trim. Question is do i have to remove the glass and if so how do i do it without smashing it. its a swb so replacement glass will be a pain to get hold off. i think i will get a much better respray result with the glass out as i hate that nasty look of not bothering to remove trim when spraying. Anyone help?
March 30, 201015 yr I had a glass removed from a hatch to fit my Z's hatch quite some time back. I got hold of a guy who worked for Autoglass who came over and used a sharp cutting tool to cut through the bonding between the glass and hatch in one spot of it. This can be done at any point of the screens sides from the inside of the hatch. He then put through the area that he has cut through the bond of, a thin wire..The wire was connected to a gripping tool on both ends which he grabbed and then sliced his way around the hatch cutting the bonding between the hatch and glass..You do have to be very careful if doing it this way especially right at the end bit of the bonding making sure the hatch does NOT put weight on the glass at all or at the last stages of cutting the bonding, the hatch should not pull or push from the glass at all as a little weight would shatter the glass. The bonding is extra strong around the corners of the glass.. I hope I have made this clear..:)
