Hello peeps, I just drove home from work and tried booting up the dual carriage way and the car seemed really under powered (boost gauge indicated full boost) and then a warning light came on.... i think it was the cat overheating warning light... It came on for a couple of seconds, then went out, i was then obviously driving super gently, it came on again for a second or so then went out again, then stayed off till i got home.

Car sounds fine, was running perfect this morning, should i be worried? and what do i need to do? I guess that if i get a new de catted exhaust would this solve things?

Thanks guys, any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Yeah i would get it decatted, cats are over heating by the sounds of it. could be blocked and createing to much back pressure?

Dont you have a chip and upped the boost now :devil2:

I do have it chipped and upgraded induction system, the next performance mod was going to be a new exhaust anyway, i just hoped that i would have a few months without paying out on her. :death:

Si - how does one take extra care of the turbo seals?

cheers guys - in the meantime am i going to make it worse by driving her? Is there any way of unblocking?

yeah you should be fine if you take it easy. you can take your cats off and smash the insides up till your cats are empty/straight through.

Some say it will effect your turbos some say it dosnt depends on the condition of them i surpose

Mine are fine after 2 years :innocent:

He means that decatting causes extra pressure on the turbo seals and they may well leak if they're on there way out.

my n/a did this, it was because coil pack was faulty, there for it was chucking fuel in and over heating the cats,,,

in your case though, i think the cats may be blocked hence the power loss and making them overheat, just my opinion though matey..

how will de-catting it put more pressure on it? i would of thought it would be less? maybe im wrong but just sounds weird?

i may have got the causes the wrong way round :blushing: (doh) but the seal leak does happen to some people that have decatted. Somebody will be able to explain it much better than me  Haven't decatted myself due to this

reducing the back pressure in the exhaust can have an effect on the turbo sealing.

as a low back presure can alow oil to flow more freely through into the exhaust downpipe if it were held back before by back pressure in the downpipe.

check your coil pack connectors, might be loose. Same happen to me when i first bought my Zed.

Get some contact cleaner and clean every contact you can get to in your engine bay. Make sure the coilpack, PTU, CAS and MAF connectors are spotless.

The cat overheat light is basically unburnt fuel igniting in your exhaust, so overfuelling. Cleaning the contacts will more than likely sort it.

Slow down guys as Vijay said a simple misfire is the likely culprit, would account for the lower performance too, check the ptu connections and the coil pack connetcions.
