I've just become the proud owner of some R33 GTR rears to go on my 300zx. I am under the impression that they are simply a bolt on item. (With the possibility of needing a new brake line!)

Is this correct? They come with discs and pads but I have read that they use the same disc and pad as the standard rear calipers... Now since i've read that, have I bought a pointless upgrade? Is it indeed the same setup that ive just paid money for? LOL

Also want to do the Evo Brembo upgrade, spoke to a couple of people about this and basically I'm looking to have some brackets made to suit a 350z disc. There are a couple of drawings floating about does anyone have a definate drawling. Or even fancy getting some made up :D Im sure there will be a few people who would like some too... Group buy anyone?!

Cheers mate if you could! I think there must be a few different versions kicking around. I want whatever is strongest/best. Perhaps be worth getting this into an FAQ/find a plac that will make and supply these brackets for people. Saves the legwork I suppose!.

I did find this diagram:

Is this the later one?

Just out of curiousity, which Evo Brembos are compatible? Are they all the same??

As far as I can tell, from a few sources confirming this. The evo 5,6,7,8,9's all use the same big red brembo with the different sized pistons. This I believe they share with the Subaru Impreza STI and some unconfirmed (I think not) Alfa 166 v6 brembos.

From my research I concluded that the alfa's were different because they took a much slimmer disc so ruled those out. Apparently the Impreza gold brembos are the same apart from the bleed nipple is on the wrong end for us and needs to be moved (It can be its just more effort, the reason for this is that the impreza calipers are OEM mounted at the back of the disc, rather than on ours (and the mitsi evo's) at the front of the disc.

To be honest I wouldn't like that stopping power hanging off those extended tube's

That's what I thought so machined mine out of a single piece of high tensile plate

That would do it

Its not. Because they are bolted straight through to the main support, all those extensions really do is act as spacers. If they were to actually sheer away from the main plate itself it would'nt make any difference.

You cant ignore the fact they are out on a spacer, if you took it to an extreme and moved them a foot away the twisting force would be huge, its never going to be as good as a single block but hey if folks are happy with them

Hi Guy`s, This new diagram posted below is the exact dimentions on the bracket I have fitted and works fine, you will notice I have altered it slightly and labeled in red

you will also notice I have now put my calipers on the right way round:cool3:

Dazvert i would get some stronger bolts than 8.8s for that job, i used 12.9 just to extra safe.

Cheers for the new diagram daz!

WOW300, am I being totally thick... when you sat 12.9 vs 8.8 bolts what does that mean? Could you tell me what bolts you used?

Also who fancies getting some of these made? Or shall i just take the drawing to an engineering firm? LOL

Thanks mate, I did get stronger bolts

I forgot to mention that! The old bolts that come off the stock calipers are now too short as they are going through the new bracket, AND the thread is different on the Brembo`s, I just took my calipers into my local bolt shop and told them the length i needed and asked for high tensile ones, If i remembered the sizes i would say but i forgot

Tensile strength and permanent stretch percentage.

Sorry for the hi-jack! But could brackets like these be made for my 350z rears instead of cutting and moving the lug?

Doubtful mate because of the rear shoes being housed behind.

Think it was AndyP who 1st fitted the 350Z rears? and looked at all possibilities of doing it.

Give these guys a shout mate http://www.arizonazcar.com/

I've dealt with them before over the years and they are very passionate about Zeds, but more importantly they know brakes and as they do a rear brake kit for the Z32 + Z33, they maybe able to offer some help to you :-)

cheers

  • 2 weeks later...

what make of evo are the brembos off Daz.

I'm thinking of doing this too, i have 18s on and want to fill them out.

daZvert, I have the Evo caliper setup aswell. Could you tell me what Braided brake lines your using please? Need to get some for mine but not sure what to get. Are they Evo lines?

Cheers,

Ant
