there should be a show that shows how customers are, we did a plumbing job for a guy, he know refuses to pay as he thinks he was charged too much, he had asked for an estimate to repair a toilet a week earlier and told us he could get a cheaper plumber, then we got a call stating that he had water coming through his ceiling and needed us to call round immediately which we did, turns out it was the waste on the washbasin leaking

we removed the washbasin from the pedastal to get to the pop up waste, it took some removeing as it was tiled round and we had to chip away the grout so as not to damage any tiles, we removed the waste and resealed it, supplied a new trap and small length of pipe, replaced all the basin and regrouted round the basin and gave it a good check, i even rushed back to the garage (20 min trip, free of charge) to get a plug for his pop up waste as the one he had was all scratched and tarnished

the bill for 2,1/2 hours labour and parts came to about £120 (not expensive by any means, we are actually cheap compared to other plumbers)

now he is disputing the bill stating he could have got a wasbasin suppled and fitted for that and we never once said how much the bill would be and he is now wanting us to write back with an apology and a revised price or he will be forced to take us to a small claims court to settle the dispute

what a load of bullshite, i will revise his price, i feel like going back and making the waste leak again, what a fookin cheek, im thinking of writing back with a revised price with an extra half hour on for the time it took to write the letter

these people should be exposed on a programme

I`ve got the same thing....£1700 tho... Never got my money back...and did not have time to go to small claims court... Some ppl should be forced to work and see how it feels!!!

You want to work for Sky, some customers are sods. I have one at the mo saying I never fitted his HD box and never turned up to his house. Thing is we have to use there phone line to get the box working and he has signed for it.

Small claims him and just keep going till you got the money. Its terrible when people do that and its a fair deal. I could understand if you fixed his leak and asked him for £20K or something like on rogue traders lol. He can claim it off his insurance as well probably.

Give him hell alan, £120 for 2.5 hours and parts is more than fair.

Plus £45 ph is ok, i charge £60 for the first hour, then £50 every hour after that, plus parts. for emergency stuff.

And i get loads of work, as i know guys who are double that.

£120 for all that work a good Plumber and piece of mind is a bargain imo... In London you could be paying £120/hr depending on where you are...

no wonder we're all poor in cornwall ...we dont charge enough!! lol£45/£50/£60/ £120ph sound more like solicitors rates than a plumber....i was charging £25 ph as a sparky the big electrical contracting firm in our area only charges £35ph....you guys must be loaded !!!! @£45 ph thats £360 per day!! thats over over 2 thousand pound a week!!! @ flat rate before your extra u add on parts & call out charges.!!! why are u driving a 300zx..u should be driving a ferrari..lol

my thoughts exactly think there should be a set rate ..then the cowboys:cowboy: would soon start showing there colours & not getting any repeat work & the good experianced guys:sailor: would have lots!! happy days...... the parts for the job dont vary that much & tools for the job dont! so why does the hourly rate!? from plumber to plumber ?:shuriken:

Years ago i did electrical contracting for a bit before i started the job i'm in now, i was a snagger going round after first fix/2 fix! I could not believe the shoddy wiring install that was done for a well known house builder! But some of these cowboys who do these installs are on piece work and don't give a sh** what standard they work to!!!!! As long as they get the cash at the end of the day they don't care about the poor people going after them putting the mistakes right!!!!!!

so you can run a business on £25 an hour, pay ya taxe's, run and pay for a van, pay another person (its not my business, i get payed £11 an hour), pay insurance, rent a workshop and so on

ive been doing plumbing for 15 years now, we have only ever had one complaint on price and that is this guy, i work for a real firm, not just some 6 week college course place

thats cool but some guy been doing it for a year could charge the same! then what r u paying for?

some guy that CANT do it could charge the same and your paying for even less

short circuit??

I did 8yrs in the double glazing industry, once heard of a well known

company having probs with a customer paying up, they called round on the

pretence of doing some service work. They then removed all the opening fanlights, put them in the van & drove off.

Said customer then got a phone call from the company stating that unless

they recieved full payment, the sashes would not be re-fitted, the product

remains the property of the supplier until full payment is recieved.

Needless to say, payment was promptly recieved!

Hate these sort of people, they agree a price, then refuse to pay up when

you do the work...:mad2:
