Three and a half years ago i gave my car and £500 to a certain person to perform a rebuild.I supplied all the parts (Wiseco pistons,Eagle rods,Cometic Headgaskets,Tomie Cams,Greddy TD 05 18G turbos,Pentroof manifolds,AEM ECU etc etc)Then four months ago i got a phone call from him saying he was having financial difficulties and couldnt pay the rent on his unit. Now knowing from a third party my engine was complete and ready to go in i paid him a further £500.

Well after excuse after excuse i finaly had an email from him last Saturday saying that he had payed the rent up in full and was waiting for the keys and i could collect my car at that time.

Not believing this i made some inquieries of my own and spoke to the unit next door who informed me that the garage had been broken into on two occasions and the tennent when informed could not make the 3 miles becouse he had no transport.

My next move was to contact the landlord who was very obligeing and just wants the unit empty.as the rent has not been paid and he has another tennent waiting to go in.

However i am not alone here as i know of another 2 people who have parts and cars there.

I am meeting with the landlord and the police Friday morning to examin the unit and do an invitory.

I have emailed the said mechanic to be there also but with no reply.

I will keep you all informed when i return on Friday.

Wouldnt have emailed him to be there for the inventory or let him know it was going on. Me thinks anything worth having will be taken out before then.

Can just blame it on then it was broken into and say "welll it was all there last time I was there"

Because every time i phoned i was told all was ok until last Saturday when i did some investigative work of my own.

He hasnt even reported the break in.

IMO expect all your stuff to have been sold off, if he has needed money this bad your car, bits and engine are probably long gone. Then you will have to take him to court if you want anything back compensation wise.

Good luck

The break in was only about 3 weeks ago so it would be difficult to move that sort of specialised stuff

Geez not good mate, unfortunately i think the writing was on the wall with this though.

Projects like yours and the other 2 involved require masses of comittment from the garage/mechanic and a fair amount of financial backing in the business to sustain the vast labour time involved before payment upon completion of satisfied work.

Man theres been some businessess start up as Zed specialists and soon fade away owing money/parts and returned cars, common theme seems to be the big projects they get involved in.

Really hope you and the other guys see some light at the end of this, I've been in a similar situation myself once or twice with me Zed and it's all soul destroying to a person who thinks of their car so passionately!

Best of luck and keep us all informed how it goes.

cheers
