Yup, me too. The Mk3 Cavalier (in saloon format) has a really nice profile. Still looks relatively modern compared to its rivals.

The competition the MK3 Cavalier had at launch...

I had one just like that but in Yellow.

I get the whole manta thing....retro classic and all that......

....but the Astra/Cavalier/Primera.....Why? You can get much newer, better cars for peanuts these days.

New cars are dull and boring in comparison. Full of driver aids, common as muck. The Primera won't get too many heads turning, but excellent condition Astra GTEs will. Old skool Vauxhalls are becoming retro-cool like the 80s fast fords and dubs.

I know Im biased...Im a vauxhall hater, always have been...never liked their low class image.

...but I figure were talking under 1k here, and cheap daily driver - so economy, reliability, comfort is whats important.... therefore the money could be much better spent.

Astra GTE is not economy or comfort. You can get a decent Astra GTE 16v with tidy body for sub 2k.

There is a boring category where the likes of the 406, Mondeo and Vectra sit though! LOL

Not just the boring modern stuff , these days most pre-2002 car can be had for under 1k, including some of the more interesting stuff;

Bmw 3series, 5series, Audi A4, Alfa 156, Golf gti's, VW Corrado, Mitsu fto, Toyota Mr2, Merc c-class.........

all of them superior in every way to an old astra, cavalier or primera.

You'll get complete dogs of all examples for under 1k and I bet all but the VWs will cost more to repair than the Vauxhall.

most start at about 500, Used car market fell on its arse.

I know. But I've seen sub 1k 3 series are they look as tired as Jocelyn Wildenstein's face.

There's always been something about Cavaliers that I've loved, i may try to find myself a nice tidy SRi 130

I had 4 Mk3 Cavaliers almost in succession back when they were new; 3 CDis and 1 SRi. I too always preferred the saloon to the hatch!

Si, your GSi looked a nice one - I never tried the GSi but I did get to borrow a turbo for the day when mine was on for a service once!! Complete hooligan's car it was:D

Me too Kim!! I was 18 years old and all my mates were into Mk2 Escorts or dodgy Cortinas so to be different I bought one of those. Sapphire blue it was; with a PMC exhaust and twin Webber carbs.......

......I loved that car:batman:

Turbos are great and look the part too. Shame that the transfer box was their achillies heel as when working, they were a great car and the C20LET was a good engine. Not too many cars back then had a 6 speed gearbox! Always thought they looked better than the Sierra Sapphire Cosworths.

Such a neat design with clean lines.

I thought so too - plus they were better built and, IMO, drove better as well owing to their more modern design....
