OK.....

Let me tell you my brake story....

I have replaced my calipers with original Z1 refurbed one's, got relocating brkt's, 350Z discs (brembo set-up), and yellow pads. Now.... i have warped 3 disc's in 12 months, braking from 160+ down to 100-70mph in one hit.

Now i am looking to get the D2/K-sport set-up for my front rotors, but..........am i gonna pay £800-£1200 worth of disc/caliper/pad set-up and get to that speed again, brake hard, then.....BANG!!! All that money gone, discs warped due to, too much heat, bad disc,etc....

Has anyone here got the big brake set-up, and got to these speeds and put the pedal to the floor, and the discs survived?

I just do not want to throw approx. £1200 at my brakes, brake hard, and to be in the same state they are in now, i would rather pay £150 for a set of discs and throw them away after the track day. (1-2 track days/yr)

btw, this is all on open pit, track days. (never on public roads).

Al.

the best set up is R33 GTR brembos with 324 discs i have never warped my discs and have braked hard and never had problems

did you stop from 160mph to 0mph then stay stationary till the discs cooled down, as this would warp any disc imo. If the discs are hot and the wheels are stationary the heat soak from the pads will damage the part of the disc its touching. You should drive around for at least 5mins before leavin the car stationary to let them cool down especially without proper brake ducting

if you want to go for a big brake setup, instead of just buying a bolt on kit go down to hi-spec in dartford and they will custom build you a brake setup for not much more money. say what you want and they will do it. they do loads of race cars so i doubt youll warp their discs. i have a hi - spec setup on my car and its amazing, best all round mod i have done. http://www.hispecbrake.co.uk/

i disagree with you there jimmytt

wel maybe not top top quality items, but if the discs and pads have reached say 600-1000degrees and you stop instantly without letting them cool down, im pretty sure they will warp or even crack. Obviously not ceramic discs.

i disagree with you there jimmytt

jimmmy is spot on mate. the same rule applys for bedding new discs in etc

I have ksports all round and never warped a disc. I have had them on for around 2 years now with the same discs. ive done 120 to next to nothing on the track

evo and scooby lads love the ksports on the track so you cannot go wrong

Being out in Germany I'm lucky I can legally drive fast. Got a standard Brembo brake setup on my 350Z and done similar stops as you Al. As yet I havnt warped a disc or any problems for that matter.

Like Jimmy said it may be down to the brakes cooling. Might be worth a test and see where it goes from there. I have to say I'm not a fan of standard calipers and upgraded my 300 to run Maserati branded Brembo calipers and 350Z discs.

even with the best quality you still have to treat them right, like i said before you cant just abuse them with out letting them cool down before comeing to a stop they will warp or crack. Its still metal at the end of the day and it can only take certain amount of temperment.

I always respect my brakes, they need to be good. I have never stopped on the pedal after a heavy brake on the last 3 discs, (i did it once and you can see the imprint of the pad on the disc!!) always braked hard then let off at a good speed and carried on for some time to get vital air to the disc. I dunno......My 2 options as i see it are:

Get a good quality 350Z disc, say brembo, dba, cpz, etc and see how they go, or....

Go for the whole caboodle, big brake, D2, k-sport, r33-34 brembo set-up, etc....

(A confused and fustrated) Al. (With little funds!!!) LOL

If you can i would get a proper kit if funds will allow it get the rears to if you can push to that.

The brakeing force is pritty amazing to be honest. every morning when i get to the end of the drive it catches me out still :1eye:

If i had the funds matey, i would go for the BIG kit, but alas, i cannot :(

For now, i think i will bite-the-bullet and go for a good quality 350Z disc and see what happens. If the discs warps again.........I'm gonna fu**&% m&^% fu^%$%$g C&^£*

LOL.

Many thanks for the input guys,

Al.

I honestly think the caliper is the weak link mate. Maybe have another look at whats available and go from there. Just a thought of course.

I don't think it's my calipers, the brakes work very well in all conditions, even after standing for some time over this winter period, got no signs of a siezed piston. Maybe the old caliper is retaining too much heat, dunno.......
