Help meeeeeeeee

I can't open my boot!

The cable still has adequate tension to release it, and pops off the petrol cap.. well it would if the cap had pins keeping it in place :whistling:

Anyhoo the boot wont release, also I've tried the three keys in the rear barrel but it seems corroded and wont budge

Any other methods or cracking the nut?

:p you know what I feel like a complete retard... I just tried pulling the cable whilst someone else opened the boot and up it went ... tut tut

but on another note how do i get the rear spoiler off? and given it's a pre-facelift 1992 model will it have the perspex strip behind the rear spoiler as standard?

You could also use the key in the boot lock ;)

As for your foam spoiler, underthere will probably be rust and dirt and grime lol but definatly not a perspex strip! They can be had fairly cheaply from Nissan I believe. But go and collect it rather than getting it posted as they are very fragile!

boot lock no worky :(

Thanks for the info, I'll give nissan a call .. and get out the lube whilst I'm at it ;)

What's the deal with getting the spoiler off does it just pull off?

Try this out matey http://www.twinturbo.net/net/viewmsg.aspx?forum=technical&msg_id=793373

I did mine a couple of days ago, there's 2 8 mm bolts one either corner of the boot, one of mine was very rusted, so had to chip it away a bit, then knock it through, and there is maybe 2 or 4 10 mm bolts, i can't remember. also, what i did, if you get a torch and shine it in the holes of the inner skin, you'll find 4 plastic clips, i used a sharp wood chisel, and one nice tap and it sheared the clips, but there's a clip at the very furthest point at each end which you just have to man habdle, or use the 'cheese wire' method like in that link. After i had removed all those bits, i just had to use brute force, i was scared of twiting the boot too much at first, but evenually just went for it and she came off.... And, mine is a 92, and the boot was mint underneath, apart from a fraction of very very slight surface rust in about a 2 inch square section, nothing a quick rub down wont cure.... hope yours is the same matey!

As a disclaimer for the rust comment...! Normally when removing these spoilers its because they have cracked and soaked up a few litres of rain which of course increases the risk of the boot lid rusting! ;)

Whats up with the boot lock? Stiff? Or just wont turn? I dont think those strips are to bad from memory, i could be wrong but ive got a figure of about £40 or £50 in mind?

My boot lock doesn't work either, might just need oiling.... If yours isn't opening, maybe you can just adjust the mechanism... Oh, as well, my boot was really lazy to open, and struggled to stay up, but you would be suprised just how much that spoiler weighs! with mine removed, i open the boot and it nearly took my hand off! it flew up, spot on, i really didn't think the spoiler weighed that much, i'd say about 8-10 kilos! (it's metal surrounded by that crappy sponge stuff, and mine was completely water logged too) HTH....

Yeah quavey, i think they are about 50 odd quid, without the brake light, but about 115 quid with the brake light! I know which one i'll be buying :)

Common problem due to worn Boot struts. The release cable unlatches the boot but the struts dotn have enough force to push the boot out of the catch, so it relatches when you let go of the lever.

However if your removing the stock spoiler you will likely find that afterwards the struts will have more than enough strength to open the boot with all that weight gone.

My boot lock doesn't work either. I keep a screwdriver in the footwell and jam it under the handle when I want to open the boot LOL

my boot lock didn´t work either but I found that stripping the barrel down , cleaning , realigning and oiling all the parts was easier than i thought, and now the lock mechanism is like new
