Im starting to think about the next steps for power. I'm happy with my engine internals at the moment (555s, Wiseco pistons, etc.), and so my question is, what 'external' engine mods would you do with the engine out?

Im saving up for some turbos (possibly JWT 530BBs, HKS, sort of middle-of-the-road power), and Im considering those manifolds that keep knocking about on fleabay.

...i suppose Nismo engine mounts would be one, any others? (not just power mods :) )

i was recomendet to purchase new oem engine mounts plus stillen engine dampener and yes it works perfect. what about dual intake ? larger turbs as mentioned. also check for any oil leakage and try eliminate it . fuel presurre regulator and gauge come handy too . hid kit ?? new loom is good point too.

I can confirm what Mikael writes regarding mounts, the OEMs are very good and can take extreme performance.

I recommend dual intake but also a big front intercooler if you don`t have them already. Go for a really big one that can provide air for > 800 BHP. One day you will probably decide that you want to go so far.......

OEM heads has a limitation around 700 FWHP.

Most ZX-owners stick to JWT, HKS or Garrett.

I decided to go for Turbonetic T04B/46 - BB-5 KKK10.

These fit perfect and gives 530 BHP each.(in theory)

I have spent £ 200 extra on them to port the exhaust part.

This gave a much better airflow, and today this works perfect.

I use 2,0 bar at daily use. They have been challenged above that too; at 2,3 bar the OEM crank bearings broke. So the turbos are very good and reliable and I don`t understand why som few use these. :2guns:

Link g4 extreme

I use the original ECU. It is possible to use this up to 1000 BHP.

It works perfect after the many changes I have done on the engine.

I have 3 ECUs: One with limit in 8500 RPM, one with limit 5500 RPM and one with limit 300 RPM. 8500 is for my use, 5500 is for other drivers and 300 is for parking making it impossible for stealing, it will simply never start.

I have a 3-stage button hidden inside the car. Simple and effective !!

Crazy man, yer the link opens up so many doors to fine tune, nos, lauch control, duel fuel, perfect set up.

Crazy? I totally agree !!

I also agree that your system is much more sophisticated. And time consuming.

ok steady on there im not looking for a 4-figure bhp (although it would be nice ;) )

i tried the dual intake but the engine struggled to idle properly so i decided to remove it and since then its been fine - my current bhp probably doesnt warrant the dual intake but i may consider it way in the future.

New loom is a good suggestion, I may consider that.

I have Z1 sidemounts which Im happy with at the moment, and should be able to deal with a moderate amount of power.

Any more for any more?

You running a lightened flywheel and front damper? Much easier fitting these whilst shes out and they do free up a few bhp.A new loom is a good one as Si says.Youll have so much more faith in the car with it fitted.

i have an SGP lightweight flywheel. what do you mean by front damper?

How easy is it to put in a new loom with the engine still in??

hardest bit is to get ecu side thru fire wall . and thats quite awkward even when engine is out . cant imagine how to do it with engine still in ..

Crank pulley matey.same horse different jockey.

i fitted a new loom with the engine in, didn't make much difference really. you can just chop the old one up, which makes life easier. I only did it recently, so if you get one, get back on this thread and i'll give you some tips. Seriousley well worth doing matey....

Where did you get your loom from bud ??

Tudor I am looking at doing this, don't suppose you would fancy doing "How to" with instructions?

Just make sure you label everything on the old loom and connectors then compare n marry em up with the new loom. The hardest part is the passing of the connector through the firewall, personally, i had the dash off at the time which made it a doddle. I`m replacing the heater box soon and will take a couple of pics so you can see what you`re in for.
