Hi,

I always try and buy OEM from the traders on this forum, but recently it has become MUCH more sensible to suffer the pain and extra cost of using Courtesy or other USA based suppliers.

I recently bought 460USD (£280.00) worth of stuff from Courtesy and even after the import duty/VAT I still saved a good £70.00 !!!!! (And received the goods in 5 days).

As a point of example - the simple water temp sensor (25080 single connection) is currently £40.62 (plus delivery) from Mike F and I can buy it from Courtesy for 21USD - that's about £13.00 plus shipping. :tt2:

What is going on!

I will go on supporting Mike and Dan whenever I can but sometimes it just seems that the prices are silly now!

Is it just me - or has it got a little silly???!?! :online2long:

I can fully sympathise with you, this has become a daily bug bear of ours now, you as a consumer are frustrated we as a business.....well you can imagine, we do not quote any prices now on new parts unless we have checked with Nissan first as they change on a weekly sometimes daily basis! but even so it leaves such small margins that often we sell parts at cost which makes no business sense at all.

Some of the price increases have been incredible like thermostats rocketed overnight from a little over £10.00 to £37.00 each!!! plays havoc with our fixed price service and repair menu.

Nissan seems to have little regard for securing the sale of the remaining 300zx parts stock in the UK prefering to give larger discounts and incentives to US dealers, simply put if this continues Nissan UK will end up with no 300zx parts sales eventually, something I feel is a target they are aiming at.

Thanks Jeff - fully appreciate your full and informative response - it sure helps me (at least) understand why I have to ship parts around the globe to save money (but kill the planet) ;-))

Do we have anyone from Nissan UK on this forum who would like to comment??

A

Im about to replace the dust seals on my rear hubs. When i asked about a price for them a couple of weeks ago, they were about £33. Courtesy have them from $13.72 each.

Bit of a difference!

If you think about it, Nissan have got us all by the short and curly's. The stock of parts for these cars must now be getting low and yet there must be 8 to 10,000 Zeds still on the road worldwide. They definitely will not be concerned about selling their stock and they will eventually charge whatever they can get. As enthusiasts, we all like to buy Genuine parts, only because the pattern parts have not come up to scratch so we will all have to bear the pain. Perhaps we should start fitting pattern parts on a test basis and see which ones come out best. (As a matter of interest, I purchased an item from a company in Holland in February 2009 at a cost of £82000 and this week I was quoted £117000 for the same item, all due to the pound / Euro differences)

Extra info.

Speaking to Jimmer, the shipping costs from the States have rocketed, couple that with a poor exchange rate and unless you are buying bulk and getting a discount, once import charges are added you are back to square one - UK prices. Also the US after sales support leave s a lot to be desired, as I am sure that anyone who has suffered a problem will reiterate. They just do NOT want to know.

Well I don't entirely agree with any of that - I have been buying stuff from the US steadily for about 3 years now and YES the exchange rate is not 2-1 anymore - but neither is it terrible. And I have noticed only a slight increase in shipping charges, which has been balanced out by exchange rates and the VERY KEEN prices available from people like Courtesy.

And my point was - WHY IS IT CHEAPER to buy from the states than here in the UK. I was not moaning about the change in the cost of parts from the USA matey. ;-))

I am assuming that OEM from JAPAN is the problem in terms of stupid prices, zero discount etc.

It may be worth investigating the same parts used by different models, i.e. I believe the det sensor is the same for a lot of nissans of our era yet the prices differ for different models!

good example Zed heater matrix £230 same Matrix (well 2mm bigger) from a Primera P10 £70 bloody shocking some of the prices on parts
