My zed is driven every day whether rain or shine, always drives and purrs very well. For the last couple of weeks ive noticed that on full boost or driving fast it seems to be holding back a bit.

So with a day off today, ive just spent a couple of hours going over all electrical stuff to make sure its perfect.

Checked and cleaned all the usual plugs and connectors,

cas, tps, ptu, injectors and coil packs, very slight return of green in the odd place, but all is now better.

The worst culprit was the MAF, Blitz SUS and throttle bodies, it was all choked up with crap, so much so that the filter was restricted to breath.

After a quick service with K&N filter cleaner. the blitz is like new, the maf electrode is clean, and just for good measure did the bodies too.

Just taken out for a drive the difference is incredible, engine sounds miles better and its breathing properly. It pulls like crazy, just sounds and works smoother.

My tip for the day is whenever you get slight running issues, dont just clean one thing, do all of them. makes a huge difference, regular maintainence is the key

Look after the lady and she will look after you.

good advice Stu... must do this to mine as I'm sure she will benefit :D

:(

The car ya fool! Very kind people on this forum are trying to help me out with a spare injector as this may..or may not be the root of evilness that has had my car giving me the two finger salute..did wash it today though!

lol i knew you meant your car... the :( was for that :D

I never knew you cared. lol Cheers!

Think I know my task for this weekend then!

James, your ride section is looking a little full ;-)

Great tip! Did this today along with an oil change and it's a really noticeable difference... brought back the novelty factor of speed that I felt when I first got her!

Did mine yesterday and i've got BlitzSus too... What a difference just by giving the filter a good clean and cleaned the MAF electrode! Everyone should give there cone filters a clean at least every 6 months to ensure proper running... Great tip by Sussex Stu! :hyper:

Indeed, but looks like I'll have to stip the AMF down to its component parts!

Worked a treat on the 1.8t Skud Octy, oil and filter change, shes almost as quick as a vRS now:tt2:

  • 4 months later...

Well cleaned my air flow meter again today but this time used proper electrical contact cleaner from Halfords... It was there own brand and £3.99 for a big can. Took off the air filter and disconected the maf and basically sprayed and lagged the MAF contacts with the cleaner.

I then let it dry outside for an hour along with the BLITZ SUS filter i soaked and cleaned in hot soapy water to remove the dirt. Put everything back and my Zed is purring and running sweeter than ever! Can highly recommend Halfords own brand stuff!

Cheers for the advice Stu :) Think i'll be doing the same this coming weekend! - I only have one question about the TPS, if I unplug it to clean it are there any precautions when handling it, as i'm sure the only problem I had with my car was my TPS needed adjusting one time, and I am a little wary as to touching it as I don't want to alter the running of the car... thanks

It can be cleaned in situ mate, just ensure the 2 small screws are done up, then the copper spades can be cleaned with a small file, and the connector with contact cleaner and an even smaller file.
