Hi

im still having problems with my power steering, i got one of my mates to have a look at it and he said the pas lines at the rear of the car are badly corroded and need replacing, i went to a garage with it and he said its a disaster of a job to do as other pipes are near ps ones.

i also called a power steering repair garage today and he said that he wouldnt touch it either and would need to go to dealer for new pipes,

please someone help... can the pipes be repaired or replaced or am i better to strip out hicas and put a bar in, how easy or difficult is this to do many thanks..

if it was me i would strip it out, doing it to caribzx and mines pretty straight forward and would have thought a lot cheaper.

hi dave im loosing a bit of fluid and the guy that does all my stuff for me said im loosing the fluid from the rotten ps lines at the back, im going to get under it myself at the weekend and see where the fluid is coming from just to be 100%.cant see and fluid lying on ground when i move car strange..

Best to have a quick look yourself, the ps lines run down passenger side of the car and are a good deal thicker than the brake lines. If you're loosing fluid it must be leaking from somewhere though as it doesn't burn off etc.. like oil can. You're a fair bit away from him but JeffTT at zedworld would be able to sort it for you.

do you think i should go for the driftworks kit or just the bar?

i know not a lot of experience in glasgow for this type of car..the joys

The driftworks kit is better as it eliminates the inner+outer ball joints, which can fail. It's also been said that its provides a tighter fit and less movement than the lockout bars do. However you do pay more for this. That said there is nothing wrong with the standard lockout bars and they both "do the same job". It's entirely up to you which you choose. I've got the powertrix lockout bar, but they all seem much of a muchness.

Hope this helps.

TBH, the pipes that run from the front to the back arent thet bad to remove.

IIRC, there is a connector just behind the front passanger wheel arch then they pipes run to the back "control valve". Seemed pretty easy when i removed them.

If you decide you wanna put in another set of pipes, i've got a set that ive just removed from my zed. I'll have a look at the condition of them and your welcome to them if you want them.

hi shrek i will need to see how difficult it is to replace, that would be a good idea if its a straight swap over, im from glasgow so a collection would be ok ..depending on your thoughts about condition thanks..

The Rear PAS pipes (hicas pipes) are fairly straight forward to replace. I removed mine when I ditched hicas, as many do.

The Hicas and PAS systems are seperate, but share the same Fluid resevoir. Hence a Hicas leak, will result in lost PAS fluid.

remove the HICAS pipe from the power steering pump.

then just get the Driftworks eliminator bar.

no need to panic :)
