Hi - Happy New Year to all - I have been rattling on about my fuel rail for what seems an age now, but I have finally got something finished and ready for my car!

Just to recap:

I wanted injector choice using top feed Bosch style injectors.

I considered the 300degree rails (and others) a poor solution (for me).

I wanted parallel fuel feed options.

I wanted to prevent thermally conducted engine heat from the engine warming the fuel delivery system.

I wanted to be able to change injectors easily without plenum removal.

I wanted a fuel rail that could grow with my engine as it changes and becomes more powerful. (This system is good for up to 1600cc injectors)!

I didn't want to have to modify my engine too much! (Just the lower plenum).

I promised some pictures so...

These are the fuel rails test fitted to the lower plenum which has the custom injector bungs fitted.

The bungs look like this:

Here you can see the rails with the injectors test fitted - on the bench so to speak:

This is what it's all about - 555cc RCE injectors, as used by many race teams - £35.00 each NEW 1000cc RCE injectors are £75.00!!!

A couple of shots of the rails attached to the lower plenum:

The rails are joined and held in place by two phenolic blocks (non heat transfer material) that are also holding two brackets that hold the rails down via 4 x new (upper plenum fixing) bolts. (they are going to get covered in Carbon Fibre probably so.. :thumbup1:)

For the coilpack connectors yes I think so - should have plenty of room, for the injector connectors - I kinda have a crazy idea of making a polished distribution panel and using goosneck trunking if I have space - dunno yet - left side of brain is taking over ;-)

...It currently looks like an explosion in a spaghetti factory - which makes me nervous!!

...And I won't have room for the throttle cover (as we know it) - I will have to fab something I suspect.

Ant this is yours I believe - hope you don't mind me using the pic - let me know and a mod will come along and slap me if required ;-))

Bloody hell!!

For a minute there, I didn't recognise my own plenum!!

(Great thread by the way)

Andy, we still need to catch up for that cup of tea!!

Anthony and Andy - as you are going to all this trouble please hide all your wires underneath the plenum. We are lucky with the Z to have an inlet plenum that has some wonderful curves. The less you have on the plenum (where possible), the better it looks including the central valley. As you guys are already in the process of grinding and polishing you mite as well get in all those nooks and crannies and hide the wires away too.

If you are fitting new coil pack connectors, they will come with just enough wire to esxtend the old ones and tuck them all underneath the plenum.

Here are a few before and afters......

Spaghetti chaos!

Peace and Harmony......no wires down the centre of the plenum.

wow so nice. has it ran with the new injector system in?

Not on this car yet - waiting for the JD chip to be delivered - but it has been tested to death on another car so I do not anticipate any unknown issues. But of course - there will be some ;-)) :sweatdrop::mellow::cool2:

Andy - was it a case of threading the cables up through whilst re-fitting the plenum - or just poking them in and fishing them out with a bit of bent wire [afterwards] kinda process? I would like to keep as much 'out of the way' as possible whilst fitting the upper plenum as there is a HIGH RISK of trapping a wire or something and then - decending into hellish diagnostics, leaks, blah blah - plenum off etc... :punk:

Hi Andy,

The best way to do it is as follows:-

While the plenum is off mark each one of the old connecters 1-6 as per there position on the engine.

Mark up the new ones 1-6

Strip back all the electrcal tape which makes up the loom as far back as the back of the block near the bulk head.

Carefully note which wires go where into each connector and solder the new connectors onto the old wires.

You should now have all the old connectore (numbered appropriately)replaced with new connectors and much more legnth on each wire.

Now lay the new wires on top of the rocker cover where the bootom of the plenum will fit (if that makes sense) and connect the connectors in their appropriate locations.

By now you should be starting to see everything come together. You may want to do this as you go along as I think i seem to remember trimming back one of the wires at the back near the battery.

Now you need to insulate the wires using self amalgamating tape and electrical tape and you will now have your own custom made loom!

I then taped the coil pack wire in place to the parts of the rocker covers that stick up leaving a tab to remove later when plenum is fitted. I might have some photos of this at home.

It is a pain in the arse and it takes some patience but IMHO is well worth the end results.

If you ned a hand just give me a buzz 07843 425220
