Hi all, right, my problem would seem to be an electrical one so will run it past you all for suggestions.

Narrowed the problem to no.6, the cylinder is fine when cold and so far ok when restarted straight after shutting the engine off.The problem occurs when left a while, nothing..removing the coilpack connector makes no difference to the engine note, the same with the injector.

I`ve recently replaced the loom so all is good with the connectors, the ptu is a new series 2 with a new loom.

So there seems to be an interruption in signal when warm.

I`ve swapped coilpacks to eliminate that side of things.

Have a new spark plug to pick up, have a new cas, also have spare relay.

Tested injector ohm when problem/not firing occurs and got 12ohm so assume it`s ok unless i`m missing something, as don`t know much about injector failings?

Can anybody tell me what i should test and the components of the firing chain. I assume it`s ecu/connections,relay,cas,ptu,coilpack/sparkplug & injector.Which of these can affected by heat? HEEEEELP! Please..i thank you.

Well..it`s no longer intermittant! Changed the plug today, was a little concerned as, although the tip is fine and looking good, there is a small bit of oil around the washer/seal which i found odd,so did a cold dry compression test got 147ish, is that ok? Tested coilpacks 2&6 (as these are what i initially swapped)by attaching the old spark plug and couldn`t get a spark off either pac,so could somebody give me an idiots guide on how to do that.I did earth the plug by touching the plenum both times.Listened to the injectors all were ticking although #6 did seem rather rapid, I`ll have to do it again as i`m not 100% on what i heard. Certainly could not get an ohm reading this time, nor a stable voltage..but i was fffreezing by then. Anyway got what seemed like all 6 for a second then back to lumpy running, from cold. Getting a code 55 so would assume the looms signal is ok? Have an injector being sent to me by a very generous Sussex Stu,so least i can compare ohms etc. Thanks again to joely for the comp tester..hope you`re not feeling so damp today! So next thing is to try a cold test on the other cylinders to compare, as don`t really fancy trying to get the car up to temp if it`s running like this in case more damage is caused.AH NUTS looking into it i seem to have done the test wrong,do i really have to remove all the plugs? also i had replaced the balance bar and it was cold.AND i didn`t full throttle..DOH serves me right for doing when feeling rotten.Another idiot guide ?

Sorry to hear the test went so wrong. At times I forget you're over there. I'm here having 26 degree, sunny, blue sky days.

lol paul!

iv heard arguments both ways but i normally remove all the plugs, pull the fuel pump relay, full throttle then turn it over an equal number of times for each cylinder, this will give you a better comparison and bare in mind that the faster it reaaches peak pressure the better.

147psi isnt a panic station figure... if the engine was up to temp! iv never done one cold so i have no idea what figures you should expect or how much higher they are likely to be, comparing the others is a good idea but i would start again on number six again so you have done them all the same way.

if no6 does turn out to be quite a bit lower than the others then try putting a little bit of oil into the cylinder, put the tester back on and try it again, if this gives a better pressure then it might be time to pimp out the mrs!

dont hesitate to give me a call if you need help and il gladly whip round and see if i can be of asistance... im now off till monday night.

yeah, i think its gonna get worse too.... alot worse!

i just got in from work and im tucking into a glass of red... happy days

Nice..booze,snow n large dogs...a fun combination! I`m supposed to be taking my rele`s to luton airport errrr!

As for the test..should havd read up 1st. Apparently a cold test..if i understand correctly + non throttle, can actually give you lower readings! I suppose from (despite the oil being thicker) everything`s contracted and not sealing as well as can when hot. Either way i`ll have to do it again...correctly and see what transpires. Just not today! lol. Can`t even see the car at the moment.

That's not helpful

I can see the rear fender! err that`s it though. Just hoping Stu`s injector makes it through the snow. Can`t work at mo due to the weather n getting bored.

EDIT UPDATE managed to get into the car today and ohm tested the injectors again. I tested no.4 result 12.3 ohms same as when i tested them in the summer, so retested no.6 ohm..3.4 checked, rechecked and checked again same result. So one would assume this injector is foobarred, would explain the intermittance if the injector`s been breaking down.So when Stu`s injector turns up i`ll get it tested, whip the plenum off and hope for the best!

Well, today i removed the plenum and guess what i found?....

That ladies n gentlefolk is flippin petrol mixed with a bit of oil.

This would explain the smell of fuel i could never track down,i guess the injector was failing for some time, maybe stuck open..i dunno. All i can surmise is the pcv system has ended up sucking fuel/vapour in as well. Anyway all my spark plugs are blacker than the hole of Calcutta, apart from #6 also explains my black exhaust, think the ecu may have been trying to compensate by over fueling. The plenum gasket was soaked in oily fuel stuff. Tomorrow is fuel rail removal..which is nice. Happy days.:whistling:

ok here`s todays report.

Got fuel rail off..spot whats wrong! And a big thankyou to the garage of the past who took it all apart just to reuse all the old rings and seals you w******s, and no..red gasket seal is not the answer to everything! :cursing:

Needless to say i`m a bit concerned as to the potential damage this could/may have caused, so any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

you need to press the macro button on your camera!

just charging the camera, had lost the charger, that`s a video still, will post some better ones later mate.

basically 1st three oil/fuel on everything plenum related. 2nd broken injector tip/cap.

When i removed the rail all the seals had red sealant smeared over them and #4 injector o ring was split 2/3rds of the way round, amazed i didn`t catch fire.Explains the mystery fuel smell i couldn`t track down!
