Today is the first day for about a week that my coors haven't been frozen shut !! I thought the glass was gonna go everytime I tried to get in it !! Design fault or just VERY cold ? I see so many people pouring kettles on their cars round here.....my dad always said NEVER do that !!

kettles and freezing weather always makes me stop and watch

when the door is open, put a tiny bit of wd40 along the rubber where the glass meets, use your finger to apply it, clean it off when the weather warms up, do your door lock also if you haven't fitted remote central locking

That's a great tip ! Never thought of anything like that. Have been so worried....you know when you can see the glass bending !

I will confess to using warm water for a quick de-ing followed by wipers to remove the water to stop it re-freezing!

I bet the windscreen companies do a roaring trade this time of year :-)

warm water is fine , its just hot isnt

Same here. Fill the kettle with warm water and its fine. been doing it for years.

Although it is funny watching the neighbours faces when they see me with a kettle and a frozen car

They have come running across with the "dont do that" look! :tt2:

lol, i gotta agree, my doors, and locks were frozen yesterday, i got the kettle out, tbh i didnt even boil the water. it was just warm tap water in there, and i was getting funny looks from my neighbour lol.

Well following my nightmare of trying to get into the car with out breaking the glass, i put a tiny dab of WD40 along the top rubber where it was sticking and using the red tubing you get with it, sprayed it into the lock, works a treat.

Same here too - I fill an old saucepan from the hot tap. Works in seconds and no ill effects in 22 years of driving......

Richard:innocent:

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

I've always used warm water and never had a problem even on my work van Wichita has loads of chips in the screen, love it cos it's so quick all the neighbours spend ages scraping away!

lol, you must have some serious cold going on where you are, mines still working from the first application over 4 days ago, and its snowed 3 times since then.

well its all sunny in the east coast now, so atleast i can get into my boot to get my sons xmas prezzies out. i was in no rush to use the car been sat there for like 2 days now

Warm NOT BOILING tap water is fine for de icing but would always recommend pouring it on to the metal work and letting it run onto the glass rather than straight onto the glass. The WD40 trick works really well - a tiny bit of Vaseline does the same thing (but a bit messier on your glass) but keeps your door rubbers from cracking too!!
