just bought my second zed, cheap because of electrical problem

hi guys, i havent been on here for a while as i sold my Zed earlier in the year and bought a skyline, but ive missed the old girl and just bought another one, But as i have no solid income and still own the skyline im on a very tight budget, so i managed to pick up a black TT auto for 300 quid, the catch is that the owner put a new battery on it but put the terminals on the wrong way, !! since then he was not able to get it working, i havent started investigating yet but though maby some of you guys may have some advise on what may have blown or burnt out?? I hope its not too much as like i said im on a budget!!!

Cant help you with the problem mate but these arent really budget cars.

I for one speak from experience

yes, i understand there a big moneypit, but 300 quid for a whole car which i have been told is mechanically fine is a good start, although i havent even heard it start or driven it obviously so it is a risk, dont want to resort to breaking it if i can help it though.

Usual scenerio check all fuses and relays as hes more then likely popped quite a few, Im afraid its gonna take you and a multimeter a while to find them all

not sure it would have fried anything to be honest mate, so do you get dashboard lights coming up?

had the same prob on my last zed and ended up chainging nearly the whole front fuse box as theyd popped, may have been something else that had done it though i guess

I did this on the V8 and it destroyed the alarm system, pulled that out and replaced a fuses and everything's working now.

Worth a check in the 2/3 fuseboxes first before you start ripping anything out

Well that's strange as the negative runs from the battery down to the gear box where its mounted using one of the gear box bolts. so if the cable was put on the Plus terminal, all you would do id image is electrify the gearbox and engine.

But yeah id start by replacing all relays and checking all fuses.

Also the alternator is permanently hooked up to the battery. If someone turned the key with the polarity reversed, all the other circuits would also be introduced...should be fairly easy to at least get the dash lights on and engine turning over, difficult part may be in actually starting the engine.

£300???

Scandelous!!!

I'm quite jealous tbh, a TT for £300, only thing id be concerned about at that price is rust, everything else is fixable. id have that engine running with in a week lol

want to swap for a N/A that's just had a engine change, only needs a pipe fixing for the MOT and tiny and i mean tiny spot of welding due to low suspension and a speed hump, other than that its running fine

i see this one on ebay & was v tempted..shame it was so close to crimbo...i got a ecu £40 deliverd? if u find u need one of course.

check the fuses,

then do an ECU diagnostics check, easy, it tells you what errors it has. then sort them.

that was a bargain, I saw it but it was yon side of the country for me lol :(

anyways, put some pics up of the mythical beast!

Was this the one that was for sale on EBAY?

yes mate

My mate lee (who i met from this site who helped me fix the first zed i had which also had stupid electrical problems) is coming with me, and he has a twin turbo auto (converted manual but makes no odds) so will try stick his ecu on it and see what happens really,

What worries me though guys is that its currently at an auto electrical garage so surely all relays and fuses would have been checked?? im just hoping its the ecu only so should (fingers crossed) be a cheap fix.

so i may take you up on that ecu offer mate? will let you know, thanks

ah dont worry, just looked at the link!! lol never mind

sounds expensive.

what does?

my manual box is long gone from the breaker. But if theres any other bits you find you need then let me know, got most electrical bits and wiring left.
