Hi have a look at http://www.polishedbliss.co.uk plenty of friendly information on there. I had a black RS6 and used to use a wax called "Collinite" it was recommended by the company who previously used to valet/clean the car. The wax is extremly durable and 2 coats applied after claying/polishing the car used to last through the winter months. The wax is available in a special format for black cars as well.

Be carefull once you look at the website you may find it hard not to go on a spending spree! I invested in a orbital polisher and now clay the cars twice a year and polish then wax, the polisher takes alot of effort out of the process but make sure you know what you're doing with it as you could damage the paint finish.

Always use the 2 bucket method for cleaning you P&J and decent cleaning products (no sponges)...... oh yes bin the Megs, I used to use that stuff and there are much better products for the same money available. Be sure to post up pics when you pick the car up.

Teflon..

Been using it for years, just hose the car down once a month so so easy.

Think you can buy it on ebay now.

Be careful applying protection to fresh paint - it can stop the paint from curing properly which will cause no end of problems in the long run. Any decent paint protection is literally forming a barrier between the paint and the atmosphere, thus massively affecting the curing process.

What I have done in the past is allow the paint six weeks or so to be fully cured, then correct any flaws in the paint (machine polish) and protect then. A synthetic sealant will offer a more durable, long lasting protection than a wax - whereas a wax offers a warmer, glossier finish.

My protection of choice at the moment is Chemical Guys Jetseal 109, designed for aircraft. It's really easy to use, buffs off easily without dusting, can be layered for maximum protection and has a bloody good shine too. You can apply sealants first (a couple of layers) allow them to cure for 24hrs, then apply a wax layer (or two!) over the top to enhance the finish without compromising protection. Chemical Guys '50/50' is a stunning wax to use on black - amazing depth and shine!

Remember, all of this is pointless if you're just gonna hose the car down and go at it with a grotty sponge every weekend, so a good wash technique is vital to keeping the paint tip top.

If you're in Leicestershire at any point when the paintwork is done (and cured) I would be only too happy to help you out - and I've got all the kit too :D

PS - I used to apply Supaguard when I worked as a valeter. I have one piece of advice about it...

Don't bother!

  • 2 months later...

My paintwork on my original black 1991 300zx has a bit of a haze - nothing too catastrophic - but someone told me that a "professional cut & polish" would work wonders.

My question is - where can I get this done and how much should I pay ?

Somewhere in Hertfordshire / Southeast would be perfect.

Also - once I have this done - should I go for some kind of special protective finish ?

Thanks,

Martin.

That's a shame!

Good luck with it anyway. :) Peach's info is absolutely spot on!
