Mini-Rant Time

Now New guys and girls... if you are reading this, then this is when a topic of interest grabs your attention!!Your reading this seeking information about what is about to be said! Excellent we all love to see people try and expand their knowledge!

Now what i keep seeing is..... people asking the same fricken 5 Questions!!!!

If you want more bhp on your zed and are unsure how to get it, instead of writing a starting a new thread saying Hello... I have X,Y and Z problems Help me as im panicing! Stop!!! Learn the good way and Click the Search Button (near the top Right of the Screen) then follow by typing into search MORE BHP, and holy s**t like magic results shall appear showing previous threads by other people whom have had the same idea! (yes other people have thought of it too you know) Read their threads and Embrace the knowledge!

Also if your hicas light pops on what shall you do??? CLICK SEARCH AND TYPE HICAS LIGHT!!! yes you will recieve similar results of people posting up the same problem as your not the only person to have their HICAS light come on.

Peoples laziness to search is becoming stupid and all they are doing is relying on other people to come to their rescue all the time is getting ridiculous and naturally its the same people giving the same answer as before because they know the Question and answer off by heart because people keep asking it every 5minutes!

So please before you Start a thread of panic.... Breathe and Click Search and go Happy Hunting!

That is all!

this whole thread and topic has been covered before...several times...honestly, just do a seach :D

FPMSL!!

I dont agree so much with the thread as this was the first forum i also came on and was made to feel welcome with people actually replying to my posts etc.

Where as on other forums people do not reply and help you out or even welcome you onto the site.

I suppose you can get frustrated yes that nobody is using the search button.........but we all have to stop somewhere and i dont see the people who are answering the newbies questiosn complaining.

just IMO i think this thread is alittle out of line and as everybody says a helping had to use the site and advise them on the "search" option

i posted a question once on here asking for help, and kindly got the reply "use the search there are 32432705898 other posts of the same question" funny thing is, why would i want to go trudging through that many posts only to find out none of them helped me in the slightest, only way i have ever found to use the search almost successfully, is with single words as the keyword,

But then, it only brings up 20 pages (most of them cant be found towards the end) and half of them are total utter rubbish and have no resemblance to what i actually need.

I have come across this "use the search" attitude plenty of times on forums, and to be pretty honest its rather rude.

We all have to start somewhere, and a lot of us do search other areas and when we cant find what we are looking for we post. not every time the situation is the same either as all cars are different and have different gremlins causing the same type of problem

Take my lighting issue for starters. i posted saying about my lighting problem, everyone replied and even gave links to a similar post, everyone said it was an earthing issue. now had i followed the advice from the search posts, i would of ripped out all the earth leads and refitted them only to still have the problem, due to it being a live feed issue and not a earth issue.

This is a forum, its for asking questions, yes sure its been asked plenty of times before, but to be honest even if its asked 1000times already, I'm not losing sleep over it. and you dont have to reply or even click on the thread, the only time i could ever see it being an issue is when there is two or three post above the other on the same page and there all asking the same thing from different users.

Half the time its even commented that its better to make your own post even when the same issue is brought up in a similar thread as it can be classed as hijacking.

Also, isnt it for the MOD's and the site owner to stipulate a search first ask later policy?

who actually cares?

i second that, if it bothers you that much dont anwser them, there are plenty of others that will do that for you, thats why this place is so valuable to owners.

if i was a so called newbie reading this i would think pompus tw*t and look elsewhere for help as most forums are a mine-field and this attitude to NEWBIES dont help we all have to start some -where if you dont ask you,ll never know (rant over)

Granted most forums are a nightmare and have far worse characters than what we can have on here (Myself in this case) but before you go and buy a new car wouldnt you research it 1st? If you had a problem with your house heating and called in help wouldnt you hope he did his research before ripping your boiler apart?Instead of demanding answers to the same things a little research goes a long way and saves alot of time sitting at your comp refreshing the page waiting for a reply saying what you could have found in

That was exactly my reaction.

Ok, Munny's point is right. It is helpful for newbies (or anyone else for that matter!) to use the search button but there was no need for the manner that was used to put it across.

Just my 2p's worth.

The mannerism that i tried to portray was only noticed by Kim by the looks of it! I could have gone off swearing saying all newbies who Thread start are sc*m etc but i sarcastically reminded them, that There is ANOTHER WAY!! And its been sitting there for a long time and is being overlooked!Almost like the overdrive button on Auto's, if you overlooked it for years then 1day clicked it and realised holy snap why didnt i click it before!! Its Amazing!!

LOL, Very Witty, however, it aint just Newbies who forget wbout the Search Button. :nelson:

Yeah but when you search for "HICAS" all sorts of crap comes up, go on give it a go.

This result, is why im bringing this up!

These cars are rare, and the more owners who become part of this forum, the

better as far as i'm concerned, stupid questions or not.

Who said anything about the Questions being Stupid???

i myself have posted up questions that im sure have been answered before however sometimes i find when using search you get a number of different answers so which one do i go with also its sometimes quite hard to sum up you problem within the search keywords.

Indeed your correct, the search results can be sketchy and unhelpful, but have you seen what you have done here! Yes You really did click the Search button! At least you tried the search button unlike many which is why i brought up my thoughts in the 1st place

people that live in the real world and not at uni need this forum to help them.

ERm... A) WTF does me being at Uni... (Again) have to do with anything?? B) I use the forum to help me, not so much as i have got most of the research i need from it as i used that wonderful search button. There would be another 10,000 threads if i started a new one on every idea, thought i had. Look at my Injector Query thread, its as far as i can see a whole new Area thats yet to be explored on this forum and the responses are by 3 people! Why's that because it needs research and beyond the norm thinking to realise sh*t that may well be a good idea.

well i for one think this thread is bang out of order, the first time i ever used a pc was to gain access to this forum, i had never been on a forum before and had no clue on how to use them, if i had seen this post i probabaly would have thought that i wasnt welcome and would have left. im not sure what gives you the right to post this thread and basicaly mouth off to all new members, it gives totally the wrong impression of this forum.

Pretty bad to be honest if 1 thread would make you leave a Forum forever. True it is not of the ordinary variety of Threads but i think people and newbies need to be reminded of that magical button that is there waiting always to be used!

what a pisstake, did you not use the SEARCH button to find out the answer to this

http://www.300zx.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=113260&highlight=hicas+light

Ah, see now i hope you read that thread because you will see my problem was beyond the erm... Top of PAS Fluid and due to me having the physical hicas parts replaced with new i was surprised to see an Error light still pop up. Evidently my Steering wheel being bent on the boss meant the Car was going straight but the hicas though i was turning which caused the issues.

This was not a result i came across in my Search :) but when i did do a search you bet i filled that PAS fluid up and checked the HIcas arms, bushes, piping, pump. Thus why i posted up my problem.

think i have answered most people but this is not a 'Kill all Newbies' thread. this is a Hey Newbies look at that button over there! Yes you can use it, its ok!!!

Thank you for some responses although i wish there were more on more tech matters rather that pitiful things

you started this thread to be smarmy and though that you would get lots of people say "well said munny" it was never intended to be a help the newbies thread as you have just suggested, maybe when you searched about your hicas prob you didnt search properly, maybe you should have searched more and not insulted us with such a stupid trivial question

see how i came across rude there, sounded just like you did on your first post of this thread

do a search for it you lazy bugger :D

I did and put in G Spot and low and behold,up popped the answer  :D I just have a cuppa tea now.Last time I looked for it I found and old watch and a cuff link.:D

If there are a number of different idea's/solutions to one particular problem then wont this make the search button more powerful?

People find different ways to fix things and to have this choice to what suits your situation best can only be a good thing.

I search before i post, but 9x out of 10 it fails. How else are we gonna get our post count up. and funkisi need material to comment on , and Bee Gee ur a legend, will give your advice a go you never know i mite find your other watch.

as for munny i get the gist but theres other ways of putting it.

as for nikki 'you sound a bit frustrated' i would have said sumthing else.

I think the best way we can resolve this problem is by replying to the new person / members question and post a link to the thread to an already answered question on how to resolve

the problem :),

This then can help both the user and will show people that this question has been answered in the past.

If new members post up asking a question covered a million times before I dont mind answering them if they asked nicely !!! manners and etiquette are a lot more important to me than whether someone has worked out how to use the forum correctly when new to it.

its niCCi  you've got an answer for everything so no doubt you would have said it differently :p

you miss the z out of ya name so  NicciZ and you did the CC wrong to

tut tut

my daugther is called nikki and my ex was to so short story for ya :0)

I see this thread as immature and attention seeking. You can tell im a farther of two lol. Surly this cannot wind you up so much you compelled to go off on one, come on mate chill out. Who cares!

Granted most forums are a nightmare......

There is one fundamental flaw to your argument, as someone who uses the forum and knows how to work a search button. i have posted questions AFTER USING the search, only to get the smarmy "Use the search button" answer.

You see, that is the flaw in your argument YOU can not tell if they have already used the search function, so what if someone has posted the same question that has already been asked 1000x before. just because they have done that, DOES NOT mean they haven't already used the search function and just got p'ssed off with it not working how they want it too.

As for researching a car before you buy it. I'm sure you and everyone else has made that mistake before, i know i sure did. doesn't stop you getting a lemon anyway just lets you know what kinda problems to expect. IF you get them.

Telling someone in a "sarcastic tone" to use a search button, would prompt most new people to tell you to feck off, i know i sure would. especially if they have never used a forum before and dont know the intricate workings of it.

Surly its better to just reply to post with helpful answers, instead of commenting on there lack of forum understanding. as when they finally get acquainted with the inner workings of the forum, there will be more search results.

Just remember, just because someone can buy a nice rare car, doesn't mean they know how to work a computer, let alone how a forum works.

If you wanted to let new people know about the search, a little politeness goes a long way and better than sarcastic remarks.

Come off it, how hard was it to just post

Can you please use the search button at the top of the forum to see if your query has already been answered; before making a post, thank you.

Whats next a post about spelling and grammar?

edited to add grammar and spelling mistakes.

this is a car forum..people who own these cars like to talk and converse with other like minded people and newbies sometimes break the ice by asking questions..the same way we hang around car parks and talk zed related stuff for no real reason except to talk zeds:) so a personal message to all those irritated by guys who dont yet know there way around our forum or just want to talk zeds for the sake of it..chill out:tongue::tongue:

the problem :),

cant argue with that, seems sensible to me.

dan.:D

....manners and etiquette are a lot more important to me than whether someone has worked out how to use the forum correctly when new to it.

Too bloody right, getting sick of answering people on here and they don't have the decency to even thank you for your time!

.......

Whats next a post about spelling and grammar?

Use the search button, I think you'll find we've already had that a few times before!!!!! ;)

Best reply/answer matey, totally agree.
