Hi, I’ve looked but can’t seem to find anything related….

I have a Jap import and want to use LED’s in the indicators, I bought a standard LED indicator module (upgrade) but when I installed it… nothing at all….

I put the old unit back in and it works (although too fast).

I’ve spoken to the shop where I bought it and they are happy to send me a replacement (they can't tell me if it will work on the car).

So should a standard unit work?

Cheers…

Firstly when you wired it in, it will only work one way ie: live and ground unlike a bulb

You need one of these per indicator across the live and ground wire, it is a load resistor and will add the load required to stop the indicators flashing too quickly

If you put one of your old ones back in and tried it without the other plugged in, it will flash quicker, less load for the relay.

I they are only any good if you replace all your indicators to led. If you only replace say 2 out of the 6 then the voltage given out by the new led relay will not be enough to power the bulbs in the others correctly, i could be wrong, never tried changing the flasher relay to one of these myself, i just found it easier to use the load resistors, so each led is independent so to speak

It might be worth speaking to the company you got it from and asking the question regarding use with all or only some leds

Mmmm, changed the 4 main ones but haven't checked the little side repeaters to see what they are....

I'll try your suggestion.......

nice if we could get someone else to confrim....

cheers

If you do the last 2 in led 501 bulbs, with the relay in place, you will be able to see if it works for sure.

It would be good to get a definitive answer though as its a good mod

got the 501's already but won't be able to check until I get back home and re-fit the LED module on Saturday.... ho hum.....

will post to confrim.....

cheers.

Please do. If it all works how you want, do a little write up and i will stick it in the faq section

LOL... bit of a problem, the flasher unit didn't work at all when I put LED's all round... got the old unit back in and flashing like a strobe light...lol....

have sent the unit back for replacement... wont be able to try again until next weekend....

I had same problem when i put leds in all my lights....i tried 3 different led flasher units from 3 different companies and neither of them worked at all. I think you may have to change the way the plug is wired though for the flasher to work as i think its wired differently for the standard flasher unit. I never actually got to that stage of finding out though so cannot confirm this of course. I just changed all my bulbs back to standard an said i'd have another go when i got more time.

Sorry, i know thats not much help...just thought i'd mention my experience on the subject.

I've changed my front indicators to LEDs no problem, just waiting for the amber 501's side indicators bulbs and the rear set to come this week. Will post up the outcome when done.

Well,

you'll be glad to know that I have resolved the problem using some of Zed-Sean advise.

The positives and negative terminals on the third party unit are indeed in the opposite positions to the Nissan unit.

To resolve this issue plug the third party unit in the opposite way around and use a wire to bridge the L terminals gap.....

This is a simple guide to help anyone wanting this mod.......

Yes this means not having to have resistors in-line for each LED indicator bulb.

LOL... up under the dash... the manual put it up behind the steering wheel but mine had broken off the bracket and was near the accelerator pedal..... (so I don't actually know)

it should be easy enough to identify, mine has a accordion style black plastic cover over the wires connected to it....

Its supposed to be above the pedals on a bracket fixed to the bulkhead...normally a pain in the arse to get to due to all the wiring under there. Just turn ur hazards on and follow the tick tick tick...its a big black looking relay. Good luck.

Cheers MMan / Sean, looks like more upside down fun in the footwell then. :hurl:

Well after 15 mins upside down it's done, thanks very much for the links to the relay supplier and the diagram for the relay work-around. :duffer:

Just need to fit the resistors now for all the other lights and will have LED,s all round.
