Reading through some of the threads and wondering....Why are zx s common for the head gasket going? Does the head end up getting porus thus the cause?

Featured Replies

There not common to fail bud, mainly age, too much boost, maintenance issues etc but the oem headgasket on a 300zx is very good and very reliable :)

It did cross my mind that may be the case as you described. Interesting.

Yup - what Mike said - it's not really a common failure or weak spot on a Z32!

Richard:)

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

I think you might find its called forum syndrome. if you look at a lot of posts, seems that the Zed is quite unreliable, but if you look at the situation properly.

You are on a forum, and looking in the various sections, so a lot of people will be posting their problems. this inturn makes it seem like things are a bit unreliable.

But in reality only a few of us have these problems.

(although it could also be put down to the age of our vehicles as already mentioned lol)

So true!!

People usually post in the "help and advice" section when there's something wrong with their Z and they want to know what it is/how to fix it!

And, yes we are talking about a 14-20 year old junior supercar here; which is likely to have been driven "enthusiastically" at various points in its life so things will go bad eventually; like with any car.

On the whole though the 300zx is still a Nissan and as such (generally) still has that Japanese reliability factor! You just don't see many posts saying "My ZX is running perfectly!!" when most of the time, they probably are.....

Have to agree with the others here, been on here a while and most head gasket failures arent usually down to the design itself, usually other factors cause it such as over heating caused by 20 year old perished pipes or just running silly boost with incorrect fuel maps.

My zed is running perfectly now :)

My Z is running perfect and always has... :hyper::) Its a brilliant car

I've got to say i id 12k in mine over a two year period and it never let me down once... come rain or shine, snow or wind it was fine. hot weather or cold weather it was good as gold.

Apart from that one time when it decided it liked lymn services and wanted to stay there. Until i plugged conzult in - laptop still loading windows but i turned the key just to try one more time and the swine started first time! Never did it again, only think i could put it down to was some static charge over something which the laptop discharged when i plugged it into the diagnostic socket!

I would say mine is boringly reliable, starts hot or cold first go + the only grief i get is sweaty palms in the rain..... but thats tempting fate.

I think most problems are a lack of maintenance, abuse + age.

I'm now looking out of the window, waiting for a wheel to fall off.. :wack:

Or it didn't like you clogging up its orifice with a windows device, thought better off it, and decided it just wasnt worth the hassle of having such a device plugged into its privates anymore.
